Today we’d like to introduce you to Eldon Bertsch.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eldon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
This all started out of the love for the ocean and spearfishing. We used to dive every day with just friends and more and more people kept asking how they could get involved and want to learn. In 2010, we decided to started out of a small storage unit meeting people at the beach for our dives. As we kept growing, we got a commercial garage and we ran the shop for a few years which was great but we wanted to bring the full experience to all of our guests and we got a little too big for the garage. So now we have got a full retail location and shuttles for our guests. Since we have been at this location, it has been amazing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have had to jump over plenty of obstacles and been faced with our share of challenges. But everything that has come our way, we have faced head on.
Locations to run our shop was a big challenge and everyone knows real estate in San Diego is not easy to come by especially when it involves a dive shop and still be able to offer our customers a great price
Please tell us about La Jolla Water Sports.
We are a dive shop located in San Diego that offers some of the most unique tours/classes San Diego has to offer.
We have a full line of Spearfishing/freediving, scuba, snorkeling gear and rentals in our retail store.
We like that we specialize in spearfishing and getting everyone into the sport. Our beginner class is great for people interested in learning more about spearfishing and the safety and ethics of the sport. Our night time lobster dive is absolutely insane fun also what can’t be beat with a good time catching a lobster dinner for the night.
Our snorkeling and shark tours are raved about and have been placed as the 10 ten things to do in La Jolla, but what else can you say, the La Jolla waters are magical.
La Jolla Water Sports is proud that we have been lucky enough to share our passion of the ocean with all of our awesome and loyal customers. We would have never made it this far without them.
At La Jolla Water Sports, we have an awesome crew that is actually happy to come to work every day and show our customers how amazing and what the ocean has to offer. So hopefully everyone walks away from our shop with a little more knowledge of the ocean and an experience of a lifetime.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would change anything or do anything different from the start. I definitely had some struggles and failed at times. But I learned from those mistakes and in the end, it has made the company a better place.
