Meet Carly Mahon of Electric Warrior Healing in Ocean Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Mahon.

Carly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I can’t help but think of the phrase, “what a long strange trip it’s been!” When looking back on my journey to today. Being an entrepreneur was never something I saw for myself. I started practicing yoga back in 2007 as a way to recover from an injury sustained after running a half marathon. My physical therapist suggested that I begin going to yoga when I was ready to start exercising again. The love was instantaneous and sparked a love and curiosity around yoga, healing and personal development over the course of the next decade.

I moved to San Diego in 2012 after finishing up a Master’s Degree in Social Work, ready for a new change in scenery and inspired to move my career of helping people forward. Simultaneously, I jumped into the local yoga studios and ultimately decided to take a yoga teacher training. It felt like a whole new world was opened up to me. I learned a lot about myself, yoga and how this practice could help other people. I was sparked to learn more about healing, which lead me to begin my reiki journey in 2015.

During this time, my full time career as a social worker began to feel toxic and because of the stress, I let some of my self-care practices go and I began to cope with food and unhealthy habits. I decided that I needed to reclaim my health and dove further into learning about fitness and nutrition. I found such a love and connection with helping others, especially women, heal themselves with movement, food, mindfulness and personal development. A fire was lit in me to begin to use these tools I was using to help myself, to encourage other people to live their best lives. I started dabbling in the entrepreneur field by dedicating more of my free time to developing Electric Warrior Healing.

Although my self-care habits were increasing and improving, the toxicity of my chosen career path was beginning to take a larger physical toll on me. I knew I had all of these tools to help people in a positive, holistic way and in July 2017 I decided to make the leap out of a stable “expected,” career path to fully dedicate my time to Electric Warrior Healing. It’s been a roller coaster of life lessons to get here, but what has fueled and energized to me the entire way is a true passion for helping others.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an uphill climb. Like an uphill climb barefoot, with extra rocks while carrying a boulder. I think fear has been the biggest obstacle along the way for me. I was in a “stable” career that I had invested a lot of time and money into obtaining a graduate degree in. I felt that this was the path I was “supposed” to be on. But for the last few years something always felt off. I knew I wanted to help people, which I was doing through social work, but it came a great cost for me – my self-care. For a long time, I was scared to take the leap to open the doors to my business full time because of the “what ifs.” What if I’m not successful? What if I don’t make any money? What if I fail publicly? I decided for a long time I wasn’t meant to do this full time and kept this as a part time business.

When you’re also on a journey of personal development, things come up! So I think I struggled a lot with my own self-doubt and fear through working on myself. I was able to bring these fears and doubts to the surface and work through them, so that I can help others do the same.

This road has taken a lot of sacrifice. Money, time, time away from friends, family and loved ones. But when you have a deep belief in your gifts and passion for what you do, the sacrifices become trivial to what you know you can gain.

Electric Warrior Healing – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Electric Warrior Healing is a space for people to learn how to live their best lives. I offer reiki healing, yoga and health and fitness coaching. There is something for everyone who either want to dip their toe into self-care or dive deeply into a holistic health journey. I love connecting with people who have never experienced a reiki session and they leave feeling balanced and energized and wanting more.

I am most proud of how I have found a flow in merging my passions for helping other through reiki, meditation, mindfulness, movement and nutrition. I always try to use my skills as an associate clinical social worker to weave in personal development and care for the mind, body and soul.

What sets me apart is my blend of east coast sarcasm and cynicism (I was born and raised in New Jersey) with my newfound west coast yogi healer mentality. A true yin and yang! With me you will get tough love & abundant light.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think making the actual leap to go full time in working for myself and dedicating my time wholly to Electric Warrior Healing has been my proudest moment thus far. Since making that decision I have connected with SO many new, amazing people who are wanting to learn more about how they can improve their lives with reiki, fitness and nutrition. I began to hold weekly reiki circles in Ocean Beach as a way to get my name and face in the community and having people show up and return weekly has been a fun way to connect with my community and grow this movement.

  • Weekly Reiki Circles in Ocean Beach – suggested donation $10
  • Individual Reiki Healing Sessions (in person or long distance) $35-$85
  • Health and Fitness Coaching – determined through a free consultation
