Meet Emma Loizides

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Loizides.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always been creative and enjoyed drawing and making things from a young age but decided to study Spanish & Business at university as I also loved to travel. I spent several years working in banking and then I moved to Las Vegas in 2006 on an 18-month internship, and admired the architecture, neon lettering and bright lights of downtown.

There were so many art events that I really got back in to painting, I started painting bright Cityscapes and Vegas street scenes and enjoyed showing my work in Las Vegas around the courthouse and Bank of Nevada. In September 2013 I had my first solo show in London, followed by 6 more solo exhibitions from 2013-2018. I’m grateful to have been part of several group shows in London and Las Vegas.

My Inspiration comes from several artists including Jasper Johns, Michael Andrews and Peter Blake, as well as Robert Delaunay for his bold and lively use of color, and Wassily Kandinsky, for his theories on the effects art has on emotions. I now have a studio in my back yard and enjoy painting every day, I’m preparing for my next show in July and then again in August.

Please tell us about your art.
I paint mostly using oils and mixed media, combining elements of pop art and landscape painting using vibrant colors. The subject of my work includes peaceful Street scenes, bright cityscapes and skylines of London, Cuba, Brazil & the USA, often taking out the people and cars as I enjoy the quiet of early morning and beauty of the empty streets and architecture.

My recent focus has been around experimenting with new ideas and techniques including gilding, collage, fine layers of resin, big blobs of colors to fine mists of luminous spray – experimenting with new styles and materials. The works are refreshing happy paintings that hope to uplift the audience.

I want to inspire people to follow their passion. I love color and use a lot of it – I hope that when people see my art they can escape from their busy day that for a few seconds they feel refreshed. By selling my paintings and prints people can enjoy a sense of beauty and color in their home and feel connected to something uplifting and inspiring.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I define success as being able to do what I love, and have people enjoy my work. Having a dream and see that come to life makes me feel successful, whether it’s an idea for a painting or exhibition, or specific goal.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?

If you’re in London this summer I’ve got a show in in July called home and away, oil paintings of London and the USA. I’ve also been working on some new and exciting work! As a big Michael Jackson fan, I’ve been working on paintings inspired by the pop icon’s music and fashion, this is a big challenge for me as it’s outside my comfort zone and I normally don’t paint people. This exhibition will coincide with what would have been MJ’s 60th birthday in August.
