Meet Eric Wohl of IntelliSparx in Allied Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Wohl.

Eric, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2007, I put an ad in Craigslist asking if anyone had any ideas for a start-up and would like to partner up. After about a week of people reaching out I partnered with a marketing consultant and started Business Builders Inc., focusing on marketing strategies for small businesses. As time went on we kept getting asked for more and more internet strategies and I had no background in internet marketing, so went back to Craigslist to see if I could get someone to partner with us for the web portion of our campaigns. Went through 4 different people and was about to give up. The last response I received was from a gentleman who said he could help.

After 6 months of working with him, he brought me aside and explained that he sold his web development company in Pennsylvania and was retired in San Diego. He asked if I’d like to leave Business Builders and partner with him and he’d give me the crash course in web strategies. I agreed and started IntelliSparx Digital Agency with him. We spent hours and hours going over SEO, web development, web design, social media strategies. Unfortunately, he passed away 5 years ago unexpectedly but he had taught me by that point, everything I needed to know. So I kept IntelliSparx in business and we continue on to this day.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The fun and often times stressful part of running a company, is the continuous ups and downs you experience. 4 years ago we unexpectedly got hit with a hefty fine from the EDD for a contractor that had filed unemployment vs the company, but we weren’t aware he had done that. After numerous legal challenges we worked out a deal with the EDD but the time and energy spent was exhausting. But at the same time was an immense learning curve for us, and we’ve been able to pass this information along to our clients that had similar struggles.

The biggest challenge was when my business partner unexpectedly passed away 4 years ago and left me in a very tough position as he was a key figure with a lot of important clients. It was an extremely difficult time for IntelliSparx as I felt a bit lost for a few months. But eventually gathered it together and kept it going.

IntelliSparx – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
IntelliSparx LLC is a full-service online provider of professional, high-quality web design, custom development, and online marketing services. In addition, we deliver to our client’s innovative web design and technology, including web marketing, application development, hosting services, and search engine optimization packages. Located here in San Diego, California, IntelliSparx is the premier website design firm specializing in everything web technology.

We are known for being fair with our clients and explaining everything we are doing. Many web companies and web individuals will not educate the client on the actual reasoning behind the strategies they are implementing, primarily on the SEO side. But we like to educate our clients on what we are doing and why we are doing it so they fully understand. I have an immense desire to help small businesses thrive without having to spend thousands of dollars in marketing every month.

The biggest thing that sets us apart from other agencies would have to be the cost of our web development, SEO, and social media strategies. We often come in at a far lower price and pass the savings on to the client. We genuinely care about the success of our clients since they are primarily small businesses, and ultimately their success is ours.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Many people assume success is attributed to financial success. While the financial side is certainly important, I feel that success would primarily be determined by your own happiness. I know quite a few people that make a lot of money but just aren’t genuinely happy. There should be a balance between financial stability and general life stability, even if that means you make less money to achieve general life stability.
