Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Lu.
Eva, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I want to share Chinese Medicine with the world. Cupping, gua sha (skin scraping), herbal medicine and food therapy has been used in my family for generations. This is the medicine I grew up with at home. My parents used a combination of these methods to treat my sister and me for colds, digestive issues like food stagnation, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach issues menstrual cramps, and body aches and pains.
As a kid growing up in the cornfields of Ohio, I was very skeptical of these methods because none of my friends were exposed to this type of medicine. I would ask my mom why she would feed me specific foods and herbs during certain times of the year, or why she would reprimand me for wearing sandals or going out with wet hair in the middle of winter after I was done with swim practice. I was curious and she couldn’t tell me in English. So, I decided to find out.
Today, I am able to use these methods and acupuncture to treat my patients now for these things and more – such as naturally rejuvenating the face without the use of injections and surgery, opening the chest to breathe better, preparing for a race, cooling hot flashes, regulating periods due to cramping or because it’s time to start having babies.
I have the answers I asked my mother a long time ago. Now, I can tell you why you shouldn’t go out in the middle of winter with wet hair or sandals and why I would prescribe certain herbs to you for your condition. There are answers. And this is what inspires me to continue to learn and share this with people who want to age gracefully in all stages of life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an adventure! One of the obstacles I overcame was figuring out what I wanted to focus on in practice – there are so many things that Chinese medicine can treat! I love aesthetics and making sure my patients can move and function like they want to. This is the foundation of my practice. Another obstacle was mindset and learning how to control the monkey mind. Once I learned how to conquer my limiting beliefs my practice has taken a life of its own. This has definitely been one of the most rewarding adventures I’ve started on, and I am looking forward to seeing what else happens in the future.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important quality to my success is integrity. I believe that integrity within myself reflects in the work that I do.
