Meet Evgeny Yorobe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evgeny Yorobe.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Born and raised in San Diego, I’m one of the handful left that can be called a true San Diego native that never moved away. My love for photography started at a young age when I would accompany my father on photography outings through San Diego with his Minolta film SLR. Using his film camera I would later learn on my own in classes at the University of California San Diego, learning the technical aspects of photography and the basics of composition. I made the switch to digital about 8 years ago and started crafting my own style of showcasing San Diego landmarks through photography.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is a combination of my two loves, photography and my home-town San Diego. While I definitely shoot everywhere I travel to, I’ve become known for my San Diego Landscape Photography so it is always my primary focus. Ever since I started doing this as a hobby I wanted to show the world the beauty of my city through my eyes, so this is what I’ve set out to do. I will utilize movement, lines, light and color to capture familiar San Diego spots in the perfect rare moment of astounding light. In a way you’ve never seen before, what I like to say is “In A Different Light.” And by capturing this moment in time, I hope to convey to my viewers on social media or in my gallery the emotions I was experiencing when I witnessed it in person. When someone is in my La Jolla Gallery viewing one of my San Diego photographs in large print, once they convey to me the joy and awe they are experiencing from my photo I know I’ve done what I’ve set out to do.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Keep shooting, never stop learning, continue to push for your dreams whatever they might be; but most importantly be realistic about what you ultimately want out of this. Don’t get into photography because you see other people becoming popular on social media and you want that too, do it because you truly love it. If you are in it for the wrong reasons it will show through your work. If you want this to do this as a business, be fully aware how hard it is to become a full-time photographer especially in the landscape market. I’ve been working every art show and Farmer’s Markets on the weekend for years, and I have my own gallery but I still have to have a day job to pay the bills. Once a passion becomes a business it changes everything, no matter how much you love it. Be fully aware of that going in, and know it will take something unique for you to stand out from the crowd. Photography is incredibly popular right now, and by just following the crowd you will get lost in the masses.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I recently just opened my own gallery in La Jolla at 7660 Fay Ave. Suite E. During the weekends I sell my art at the Little Italy Mercato Farmers Market on Saturdays and the La Jolla Open Aire Market on Sundays. You can also find me at any of the large Art Shows in San Diego including Art Walk Little Italy, San Diego Festival of the Arts and the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival. My website is the best place to see all of my work in one place:; and my Facebook page has all of my newest work: I am also on Instagram here:

He is one of the most interesting photographers in SAn Diego. His photographs are his own personal interpretation of the subject. I am thrilled to say that I visited Mr. Yorobes studio and purchased. Couple pieces to hang in my home. He’s unique, talented and very friendly. An all around great guy!
