Today we’d like to introduce you to Karey Gregerson.
Karey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became interested in Cosmetic Tattooing in 2005 when I had my own makeup done. I had been teaching high school for 15 years & I knew I wanted to try a different career, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. After having my own tattooing done, I told several women about it & some of them did it & of course loved it! It dawned on me that giving women more self-esteem & making them feel more beautiful when they wake up was something I wanted to do so I began a training program & overlapped teaching with tattooing for two years before leaving my career & moving to San Diego.
I’ve been doing Cosmetic Tattooing full-time for over 8 years now. My business has grown steadily and I now enjoy the luxury of specializing in the look of real eyebrows. I create the look of hair by tattooing fine lines that mimic a natural hair pattern.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a fairly smooth road, but slow growth was discouraging at times. Getting the word out was a challenge! I didn’t know much about using social media when I started & was nervous to subject myself to being reviewed on Yelp, but both turned out to be the best things I did for my business!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fine Lines Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in creating hair stroke eyebrows. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t use a mechanical device for tattooing. My method is very different & less intrusive than other methods – I use a hand tool to “tap” the color into the skin. The healing time is just 5 days and the look is soft & natural. Clients are shocked at the lack of pain associated with my method, and that tends to be talked about a lot!
I’m most proud of the type of client support that I give. I’ve been in their shoes & I understand the emotions my clients have so I’m very patient & I follow up on them a couple times during their healing.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wish I could say I’ve had a ton of good luck, but it’s been a lot of persistence & hard work.
