Meet Frank Rios of Set Life Photography in Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Rios.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Set Life Photography originally started out as Set Life Magazine in 2014, a magazine dedicated to the positive image of the biker life style. The magazine was more of a passionate hobby. I designed to layout, wrote the articles and photographed subjects and events for the magazine.

Since I was doing my own photography, people took notice and I started getting hired for photoshoots. Well, that took off on its own and it got to the point where a choice had to be made and of course, I choose photography. I started doing photography as a hobby back in the day where digital cameras didn’t exist. You had to know lighting, aperture, ISO, all the basics. Back then, you really only had one chance to get it right. lol.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As far as a smooth road, well it has not. See, ever since the digital area took control, it has made photography work easier for the professional. Only problem with that is anyone in possession of a DSLR camera considered themselves a professional photographer. They buy a $6000 canon or Nikon and now the know what they doing, and for the clients well they don’t know any better and we photographers underpricing their focus is more on saving a buck rather than quality. So the road has been a bit challenging but not difficult. I know my worth as a photographer and stand by my work as a professional.

Set Life Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’d like to think of Set Life Photography as the go to professional photographer who can provide their clients with whatever type of shoot they are looking for. For me as a photographer you are an artist who should be able to dive into whatever challenges come your way. I rather not be recognized as a photographer who specializes in one aspect of photography but rather as a photographer who specializes in whatever the client’s needs are. Now I am known as a wedding photographer but I do a lot of my own projects focusing on lighting, composition and theme shoots. I feel challenging myself with various types of photoshoots keeps me ready to take on any project a client asks for. The thing I’m most proud of most about Set Life Photography is the fact that what we make dollar wise is not the number one priority but rather the client and capturing the images that they are looking for, whether that be natural light, artistic, black & white, etc. I think what sets me apart of from photographers is my passion for the art and willingness to go above and beyond for the client.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
So far, the proudest moment of my career is right now. SD Voyagers recognizing me and Set Life Photography for the work that I do.
