Meet Grace Schlesier of Grace Your Walls Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Schlesier.

Grace, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In the 80’s, when my children were in school, I picked up a paintbrush and never looked back. Painting on location and in my studio is my muse and my passion. I paint to spread the joy of beauty and feel surrounding oneself with beautiful art heals the soul.

In our world today there are so many things to bring us down. Grace Schlesier’s art, filled with joy and promise, brings peace and balance back into one’s life. After many years of showing paintings in street fairs, Plein Air (on location) invitationals, local shows she chooses to participate in five or six major exhibitions a year. This year she’ll participate in shows around the country including a major exhibition at the Haggin Museum in Stockton California in August.

Her work is currently represented in five galleries. She is a member of the Salmagundi Club NY, California Art Club, Oil Painters of America and a Fellow with American Artists Professional League NY and a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society, American Women Artists, and Women Artists of the West. She’s won numerous awards including a Gold Medal Signature Member Award with AWA and just won an Award of Excellence with WAOW. She is currently participating with American Women Artists 25 Museum Shows In 25 years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to my goal has had many twists and turns. I think it’s the joy of getting there and always reaching deeper, to see where this winding path may lead. That’s what makes this journey so fulfilling. I’m blessed to be on this quest to pursue excellence.

My paintings have been well received and I think my paintings to bring a sense of peace and in some places healing. That’s my goal.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Grace Your Walls Studio – what should we know?
I often pack up my easel and head out looking for something that draws me in and I call it my Wow moment. Here, I’ll spend several hours sketching what I see, saturating myself, capturing the essence of a place. These sketches are what I use and they comprise my ideas for larger studio work.

Some of these paintings take months, sometimes even years to complete. I paint the Love I have for the sea and nature. I think the emotion one feels viewing a Schlesier painting sets my work apart. Viewer tells me they can feel the breakers and smell the sea. I love that.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I sometimes say, I’m self-taught, we all are to some degree. The truth is I’ve had gigantic support from my husband Bob and my family. I’ve had teachers, working Artists, workshops with amazing artists, books and videos of the Masters to study.

Over the 20 years of teaching, I’ve learned so much from my students. The learning goes on and on and I’ll never know enough to be as good as I want to be. So much, now, is giving back, helping and mentoring others so they can grow to fulfill their dreams.
