Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather and Daniel Molchanoff.
Heather and Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started doing hair 14 years ago. Both my husband and I do hair and after having our first child, we decided it was time to open our own salon. We were excited and nervous all at the same time but kept the focus on the excitement because we didn’t want to start questioning our decision to start our entrepreneurial business. We found our salon fast, put the offer in and boom, we were up and running within 2 weeks! It was incredible. We had 6 chairs at the time and were so excited as they started to fill, little did we know that our “Formula” was going to explode into what The Hot Seat is today!
After the first year, we did a makeover in the salon. We tore down a wall and added 8 more chairs. It was so cramped it was hard to work! Haha, that was our mistake and we immediately started working on our first expansion! We decided to take over part of the batting cages next door and wanted to bring a downtown “feel” to east county. We designed the salon with an upstairs loft and now had 34 chairs! It was amazing. We had an amazing team and we kept growing and growing!
After a few more years of growth and stylists getting busier, we decided to expand again. We took over the remainder of the batting cages and DOUBLED in size! Now we have around 62 of the most talented stylists in San Diego and I am so proud to call our Hot seat family extremely special and unique!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle has always been not enough room for more stylists!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Hot Seat Salon – what should we know?
We are a group of stylists that not only execute phenomenal hair, we also transform lives. The influence that a Hot Seat Stylist has on their clientele will completely shift a person’s mindset from mediocre to excellent. We specialize in color, cuts, tanning, skin care and men’s barbering.
I am so proud to work with amazingly driven, talented creators every day. people that are life givers! I feel like the atmosphere of the salon is what sets us apart. No Drama, fun, outgoing vibe that makes everyone feel comfortable!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wow, the people that deserve credit would be Miilicent Hultinius, she was my mentor when I first went on my own. Andrew Womack, he speaks truth and life and doesn’t allow for the mediocre mindset to set in.
Collin Higginbottom, my mentor in my apprenticeship, he has helped me to see things I have missed in the past.
