Meet Heather Wilhelm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Wilhelm.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My boyfriend and I took a trip to Italy together a year into dating and instantly fell in love with the country. The Piaggio ape’s dotted the streets and added to the old school charm. A specific scene of one with a giant pumpkin in the back is what stayed in my mind and brought on the idea of selling items out of them back in the states. A few years later we finally found our little bee (ape) in Italian, and we started the build-out process of the bar after picking it up in San Francisco and driving down the coast with her in our truck bed.

Please tell us about your art.
We both have Italian heritage so it’s fun to talk to people who instantly recognize the type of vehicle and its origins. Neither of us has really fit into the mold of a regular day job so we decided to put together our talents for business (his) and my creative talents to create a joyful and memorable experience that people can rent and have for their special events.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think nowadays with social media and the way mediums are shared so fast your art can easily be expressed and reach a targeted audience in ways that are faster and weren’t possible before.

This can seem overwhelming at first for an artist when you’re trying to break into any scene with content so easily accessible, the need and want to be original or stand out might be discouraging to some. However, there is such a wide breadth for all interests so it’s worth the jump and it helps to think that everyone has a ‘first’.

I think the best approach is not to see other artist’s as competition and take a more collaborative approach which just means more get-together’s, events and festivals for our city to hold so we can all work together. We’ll be there with the libations 😉

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We’re completely mobile so we travel wherever the party takes us! Rental information can be obtained by visiting our website and e-mailing us.
