Meet Holly Haeseler of Hazelnut Labs in Poway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Haeseler.

Holly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hanuman and I had recently moved our family to San Diego from New York after falling in love with this city on a prior visit. The move meant that Hanuman went from working with the largest publicly-traded hedge fund in the world to working at a social media start-up in the time before Facebook and Twitter even existed – almost hard to imagine now. The change shifted his focus from designing software for business functionality, as was required in the financial industry, to mastering the cutting-edge requirements of social media software architecture – a skill which has made him a strong architect in today’s online-dominant world.

Hazelnut Labs was founded in reliance on Hanuman’s extraordinary talent for what he has come to master: Enterprise Architecture as a discipline, along with my legal and business-development skills. Since the time of its founding following the market crash of 2008, Hazelnut Labs very much represents the California dream for us, enabling us to work with exceptional people and for inspirational clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
After the market correction of 2008, we realized that there were untapped opportunities in San Diego’s consulting space, not only in the financial industry but in San Diego’s rich healthcare market. San Diego is at the forefront of not only biological and pharmacological research and development, but also healthcare management itself. One of our current clients is a healthcare solutions company that is staffing critical medical positions around the country, yet is headquartered right here in San Diego. Working with clients who are doing such important work is complex and challenging, but it’s work we feel good about doing every day.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hazelnut Labs story. Tell us more about the business.
Hazelnut Labs provides business and technology support to any company seeking to align its business strategy with the most efficient technological solutions today.

We do everything from helping a business understand its own processes to providing pro tem/advisory CIO services. Companies experiencing rapid growth or which are acquiring new companies with parts which don’t align with their original vision require technical intervention to enable smooth business function.

We focus on bringing our clients the best in the following fields: executive leadership, technology strategy, enterprise architecture, IT governance, business process management, software development, infrastructure architecture, change management, and quality assurance. Our professionals bring the expertise needed to establish and execute a company’s strategic roadmap.

The most enjoyable part of the business, however, is the consulting talent we’ve discovered and had the privilege to work with. Our culture at Hazelnut Labs embraces open communication, intellectual synergy, and pride in providing our clients value by delivering the best work product for their money.

We’re also proud to have an incredibly diverse team, which arose completely organically when we sought out the very best to help us achieve our consulting goals.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
People maintain an increased reliance on social media these days, and therefore expect more from online interactions – be they within their company’s work space or online. This means that for a business to survive, business architecture is no longer a luxury: it’s a requirement. Streamlining business goals to align with technology is a must, and this will only be more important in the coming years.
