Meet Alexis of iBrows By Alexis in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I originally wanted to be a wedding makeup artist, but life had a different plan for me! One minute I was working makeup jobs with popular brands, and 3 days after I got my esthetician license, I was on board with Anastasia Beverly Hills. I spent about 2 1/2 years doing brows with them, and then I ventured onto my own. I wanted to get out of the retail side of brows and I was too independent to be working with others. I owned a salon by SDSU for a couple of years and realized quickly that I work best as a one-woman-show. Since then I have just been doing my own thing! Brows have really become an “it thing” in the beauty industry and I’m so happy that more women are realizing the importance of having well-groomed brows. The saying is true that when you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. No matter how far I travel, I always crave being back in the salon with a client in my chair!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the biggest struggle that I faced was building a clientele that was loyal and understanding that I was trying to build a business. There were days that I had no clients and then there were days I had 15. That unknown really stressed me out. I used to wax during the day and I would serve at a restaurant at night to pay my salon rent. It was a very busy time in my life and I’m so thankful for social media because once I was able to showcase my work, I was fully booked.

iBrows By Alexis – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in brow shaping based on facial structure. Each client receives a shaping that’s a combination of what they want to be mixed with my professional advice for what brows would best match their face. I would say that I am known for fuller brows and helping girls go through brow rehab. Most clients start their first appointment out telling me that they’ve been trying to grow their brows back forever, and I have little tips and tricks to help push them along. I ask everyone to grow their brows out for 4 weeks prior to their first booking so that we can start brow rehab.

As a company, I think I am most proud of being a single, female business owner. I did this all on my own and there is something about that that makes my success taste that much sweeter! I run a tight ship with appointments every 20 minutes, so things can get very stressful. No matter the situation, when you are in my chair, you have my full attention and I am going to do everything in my power to help you leave feeling more beautiful than you came. I don’t want anyone to feel as though I provide services just to make money. It’s so much bigger than that.

I think what sets me apart is consistency. I have so many women tell me that places they were previously getting shaped would give them what they want but then they would slowly notice a difference in their brows each time that they didn’t like. I strive for improvement and I’m very honest about what results clients can expect.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Wow, that’s not something that’s easy to answer. I have helped women with alopecia or cancer learn how to fill their brows in naturally and that’s something that is so much bigger than just being a brow artist. Struggling with your looks is something that all women go through, but when it’s out of your control it’s very hard to deal with. There’s been quite a few times that both the client and I are sitting there in tears. I hope to work more on the permanent side of this in the near future with tattooing.
