Meet Jacqueline Andrews of Andrews Speech and Language

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Andrews.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacqueline. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Andrews Speech and Language is a home-based, pediatric speech therapy company that provides speech and language therapy services to the children in the North County San Diego area.

My company has originated from the desire to be independent and to provide the quality services that my clients and their families deserve. This endeavor would not have come to fruition without the support of my husband and the guidance of friends in the field. It has been an exciting process to grow this business and provide support to many families in the North County area.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s definitely a learning curve when starting a new business! We have been very fortunate, though, in that our journey has been smooth. I have a brilliant mentor who has been so supportive throughout this process and has provided invaluable advice on all the logistics needed to get a business up and running.

Andrews Speech and Language – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Andrews Speech and Language provides home based speech and language therapy to North County residents of San Diego serving children ranging from birth up to 18 years of age. We provide comprehensive assessments and quality speech and language intervention that is driven by current, evidence-based practices in order to improve the functional communication abilities of the clients we serve. We specialize in childhood speech and language disorders that may be the result of Autism, Apraxia, a learning disability, etc. Each speech session is tailored to that child’s individual need in order to facilitate functional communication with others and/or access to academic related tasks. We use a variety of supports in our sessions to achieve this, including visuals, behavior management, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) supports as needed. We are proud to be a small company that provides quality and specialized support to each family we serve.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I try to find success in each speech session. Success may be for a child to independently sign “help” when putting on his shoes. Or, it may be for a child who has minimal eye contact to participate in a joint attention activity. Success is when a parent reports how proud they are that their child is talking more at home. I feel successful when I see my clients make steps towards being independent communicators in their daily lives.
