Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Coligan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacqueline. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I created BrickHouse Dance Productions two years ago, it was because I desired to have an outlet where I could express myself through dance. Monetizing my work was never a driving motivator or something I even imagined. We started off very small with just three ladies performing at local dive bars in North Park. It wasn’t long before people started to take notice and offered us paid gigs for festivals, corporate events and private parties. My professional background was in Hospitality & Events so launching an entertainment company came very naturally to me. I also had an edge because I already had a strong network of professional connections to get the ball rolling. Now, we are a thriving business comprised of twenty dancers performing both locally and across the nation. We have entertained for some of San Diego’s most prestigious companies, charities and nightlife venues and look forward to continuing to prosper in our passion for dance and entertainment.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to consistent work has not been easy. My first year in, I quickly realized that our bookings would be seasonal with a significant drop off in business in the summer months as most corporations and charities host their private events in the fall and spring. It was a very anxiety inducing situation to have a talent roster eager to perform, but with nothing to offer them. If there’s anything that I have learned as a newbie Entrepreneur though, it’s that consistency is key. Even in the face of doubt, I kept creating on the sidelines. If business was slow, I used that time as an opportunity to create new marketing material and networked within my local community to forge new connections for future bookings.
BrickHouse Dance Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
BrickHouse Dance Productions is a grass roots entertainment company based out of San Diego, California. We add entertainment value at corporate & social events with our custom-tailored dance performances and are available for commercial work, choreography services, back-up dancing, go-go dancing and group classes for special occasions. Our beautiful roster of Talent has participated in a variety gigs expanding from San Diego to Boston. BrickHouse has performed at festivals, fashion shows, on the local news, in music videos, marketing ads and with international artists.
As a company, we are most proud of our desire to exceed our client’s expectations and bring their vision to fruition. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I think it definitely shows in my work. From the cohesive details in our wardrobe styling to the execution of our choreography. Every performance matters and it shows.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think the proudest moment of my career so far has been booking our first cross-country performance. Last year, we provided “Studio 54” themed entertainment at a private party for a traveling biotech conference and the client said we were the best dancers they’ve had in seven years. In 2018, we will be performing for them once again, but this time it will be in Boston. For someone to say that we are worth an all-expenses paid trip for twelve of my dancers and staff to travel cross-country is very humbling. I can’t put it into words honestly. I love my Dancers like they are my family, so to be able to provide this opportunity for them as well truly makes my heart overflow with joy.
