Meet Jacynda Jae of Plush Makeup Artistry & Hair Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacynda Jae.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the owner of Plush Makeup Artistry & Hair Design; along with two other beauty businesses. Plush is my “first born”, my baby!

I started my journey at cosmetology school. I quickly realized hair was not for me but I still wanted to pursue a career in the beauty industry. I then went and got certified to be a makeup artist through Analicia Romo, a 20+ year veteran MUA.

After being certified I went and applied to TONS of makeup counters and stores. Consistently being turned down for lack of experience, my tattoos & crazy hair. I decided to open my own business… then Plush Makeup Artistry & Hair Design was born!

Since then (and in only 3 years) I not only have Plush, but be•YOU•tiful Hair & Makeup Artistry, Airbrush Tanning certification & division in both businesses & Plush Pro Academy!

I also managed to get Plush to #1 Hair & Makeup business on Thumbtack 2 years in a row & placed Top 10 on San Diego A-List!

I also started 2017 with Plush & be•YOU•tiful both being awarded Top Pro on Thumbtack! Less than 3% of Thumbtack pros make the cut; was so excited for that one!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Business is never a smooth road. Serving the public is never easy because everyone is different, that’s the toughest part.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize and run our business for weddings; the bridal industry. So by default we also specialize in airbrushing and extensions!

Our goal is to be different from the rest. We work countless hours to build and maintain the reputation and satisfaction that we see on our clients faces each and every day. Every one of you mean the world to us and we wouldn’t be here, doing what we love, if it weren’t for YOU.

I am so thankful to have such an amazing team of artists along with me. We are all truly passionate about what we do, we take our jobs very seriously, and we take pride in how we run our company – because we are different. I’ve made sure of that. In only 3 years we have expanded from 2 cities to over 70! Each and every one of our artists are hand-picked by me and we are all here for one thing; you.

So I thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting in us as artists, in me as a business owner, and in Plush; to be part of your special day!

What were you like growing up?
I had a rough childhood. Well, at least the ages of 11-18. My parents went through an insane divorce that lasted over 5 years. I was dragged through court and every aspect of it which included being made to take a polygraph test; ugh. So in trying to deal with all of that I mixed with some bad kids and did things you shouldn’t do. I’ve been arrested. I’ve been on probation. Everyone looked at me and knew I was going nowhere.

Then I decided to learn from my experiences, not sulk in them. To be the opposite of what I went through; so I did. And that was it.

I’ve always been a very determined person. I’ve always found a way to get what I want. Unfortunately, for a while that determination was set on rebelling. But now it has absolutely worked in my favor with my determination to succeed. Sometimes I may be a little too obsessed with it and I have NO life. But I like to look at it as it’s better than the alternative, lol!

My “secret” is to not doubt yourself. Because YOU can do anything you want to, you just have to get up and do it. If you doubt yourself, you will fail. Believe that you can do and handle anything; because you can. Yeah it may be a little scary but if it’s not going to kill you then what’s stopping you? I know that’s a little dramatic but it’s true.

I also live everyday with this in mind… Something my dad has always told me; thank god this one actually stuck…

“To do everything that you do with everything inside you. Give it all you have and do it with pride and passion; even if it’s washing the dishes. Because anything worth doing is worth doing right. Pay attention to detail because it will be noticed. And even if it isn’t at least you know you did everything you could and there’s no regrets.”

As I laid there on the ground being 8 year old me while dad continued to work on whatever he was fixing that day, preaching this to me.

I believe this alone has gotten me where I am today and will continue to carry me to where I want to be.
