Meet Jaimee Brant of Paint Box Art Studio in Mission Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaimee Brant.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jaimee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was working as a clothing designer but always had a flare for teaching art and sewing. Whether it was in my daughter’s classroom, at UCSD to college students and adults, or at UCSD summer camp, I always really connected with my students and loved teaching them. As my daughter grew older, she’s ten now, I noticed there wasn’t a community place for her to do art. Too, there wasn’t a place in all of San Diego to learn sewing and have an open sewing space for children. So, the Paint Box Art Studio was born offering art and sew classes, adult and kid paint and sew parties and camps. It’s a small space but it is always bustling!

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business and learning how to run a business is always a challenge, especially for someone who is artistic and unorganized. As each day passes, we acquire some new system – for billing, registration, and organization, to name a few. Every system we put in place helps a ton! It’s still a learning process… every day!

My current biggest obstacle is handling all of our wonderful donations and growing class and camp sizes. We need more space and I am working on it!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Paint Box Art Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our business is an art and sewing studio. We have art and sewing classes, camps and kid and adult paint and sew parties. I would say our special events and camps are very celebrated. Our classes, too, are loved by parents and kids. I am most proud that we are able to create a trusted creative space for parents and kids. Many parents refer to the studio as their kids ‘other home’ or their ‘happy place’. It warms my heart to be able to create this space for the kids and their parents. As a parent, I know how great it feels to see your child in their element and being creative and nurtured in their activities. It definitely brings the warm and fuzzy feelings and also a sigh of relief when you find that for your child.

What sets us apart from others is that we really care. It’s such a small business that each child is unique and important to us. Not only do we want to help that child learn and create something that they are proud of, but we also really focus on individuality. Our model for sewing is especially unique in the way that it fosters this individuality. Instead of having set projects, we let each child decide what they want to do each class and help them produce their own unique creation. The kids work side by side on their own projects and that is very satisfying for them.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the people and the casual nature of our city. It’s very laid back and comfortable. Living close to down town, too, is incredible as I feel there is always some neat event going on or some wonderful restaurant to go to. I’m not sure I can find anything bad to say about San Diego.

  • pricing for classes varies based on the class but runs between $25-30 per hour.
  • pricing for camps is $83 per day
  • parties start at $399 for 6-10 people
