Meet Jamie Justo of San Diego Lashes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Justo.

Jamie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated college in 2011 from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in Business Marketing. After graduating I started working for a company doing their marketing and soon realized I was in the wrong career. I had been getting my lashes done while I was in school and always had an interest in lashes and fantasized what it would be like to do them myself. However, I didn’t think it was possible because it was a completely different career path than the one I had chosen. I only lasted about a month in my new marketing career before I decided to pursue my dream and take a course on eyelash extensions. As soon as I took the course I was hooked; I knew instantly this was what I wanted to do. Once I developed my skills I started taking clients out of my sisters tattoo shop- that was fun chapter I will never forget, some clients loved listening and partaking in the constant banter that went on in there while others I’m sure did not! I knew I wanted to open my own spot and learned that I needed an esthetician license to perform lashes in a salon. So, I went back to school while taking clients on the side. Once I started getting more established I opened my own spot right next door. I started small with just one other technician and that was great but I knew I wanted to do more. That’s when I decided to take the plunge and rent a big space in Bay forward 5 years and here I am. There’s been lots of ups and downs but I am so happy I followed my dreams!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! My first obstacle was completely changing my career path and having to go back to school to get my esthetician license. Financially, I put everything I had into this business and was praying it would work (it had to)! Another huge struggle I found was finding not only talented but good quality people to work at the salon. Although it wasn’t easy, I am so grateful because I have been able to connect with some amazing people!

Then.. dun dun dun…COVID. Closing my shop for a year nearly forced me out of business and had it gone on a little longer I likely would have had to close my salon and find a new career. I distinctly remember having conversations with those close to me about whether or not to close. I am so thankful I was financially able to hang on a little longer (I know others weren’t as fortunate and my heart goes out to them).

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At San Diego Lashes we specialize in Eyelash Extensions and Permanent Makeup. All of the girls at the shop truly love what they do and it shows; they are all always so happy to be there which creates an amazing shop atmosphere. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. We make sure our clients are always happy and if they’re not, we fix it! We don’t believe in a cookie cutter approach when it comes to lashes and beauty services which is why we take the time to listen and understand exactly the look our clients want to achieve and carry every type of lash imaginable so we can make their dreams a reality! My favorite thing about our shop is that we give back. About 6 years ago I created a program called “lashing out at cancer” where we donate a full set of lashes to someone who has recently undergone chemotherapy. Being able to make these women feel beautiful again and restore their femininity brought a whole new purpose to lashing.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Please help us spread the word about our “Lashing Out at Cancer” program so we can help more people look and feel their best!
