Meet Jason McAllister of Curiocity Catering in Old Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason McAllister.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I wanted to open up a restaurant but it was 2009 and times were tough. I decided to start with a food truck to get the name and quality of food out there. Went 100% catering in 2016.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was very tough starting out. I was going out lunch and dinner every day and hitting truck gatherings on the weekends. Sometimes we would go out and make $35 or $70 at lunch and still have to break down and had food left over that had to be sold or thrown away. Whether you sell food or not you are still prepping, breaking down and doing dishes which is exhausting especially if you are doing it twice per day.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Curiocity Catering – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Curiocity Catering is a San Diego based catering company that started in 2011. We specialize in weddings, corporate event and celebrations.

There are a lot of food trucks that do not make it past the first 2 years. I am proud that Curiocity Catering has been going strong for 7 years. I am proud of the idea that Curiocity Catering plays an important role in the San Diego community.

I have worked in hospitality for 20 years, so I understand the importance of customer service. Our customer service sets us apart from others.

We have food trucks that pull up on site/location and prep and cook the food. The food comes out hot and fresh because we are literally cooking it as we are serving it. That is one of the reasons people love us and it sets us apart from the others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’ve been in San Diego for 15 years and the food scene has exploded which I really like. I also really dig the weather. What I like least is the traffic that has gotten out of hand.
