Meet Jeffrey Litteken of TalentLink Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Litteken.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After graduating with a dual major in Finance and Accounting from Miami University – Ohio, I spent several years in corporate accounting with a publicly traded firm based out of Cincinnati, Wanting to venture into the human capital sector, I moved to San Diego and spent 18 years placing finance and accounting professionals on a contract, consulting and direct hire basis. During this period, I worked for a Fortune 500 firm, an Inc. 500 firm, and for 11 years was a founder and managing partner of a firm that was recognized by Inc. Magazine and the San Diego Business Magazine as one of the fastest growing firms in its space.

In 2014, I partnered with Amy Kizer to launch TalentLink Solutions which offers the financial services community talent acquisition and HR consulting solutions. We initially launched our firm to support our clients’ hiring efforts and give them access to the passive talent pool. However, we expanded our offering to also include human resources consulting after continued requests and continue to assist independent financial advisors and the firms who support them.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This was somewhat of a newer market for me as my previous focus was corporate finance and accounting.

Additionally, our scope of service was national whereas in the past our focus had been a specific metropolitan market. Therefore, the combination of these two factors caused us to rethink marketing efforts and obtain a better understanding of how to position our services.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TalentLink Solutions story. Tell us more about the business.
TalentLink Solutions was created knowing that a firm’s success is determined by the quality of its team. We identified a gap in services specific to the financial services sector and started the firm to fill it. With over 38 combined years in the staffing and search business, we understand the business and have seen what works and what does not work.

In constructing the business model and the firm’s best practices, we have pulled from this knowledge base to create a firm that caters to each individual hiring need. It has been heard many times that our customers ‘Didn’t know a firm like our existed with the specific focus in the wealth management industry’ followed by ‘I’m glad we got connected and I now have a resource like you’.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It has been said that luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. I’d like to add hard work into that equation.

When I look at a time when ‘good luck’ occurred and analyze it, I realize that there were actions, connections, perhaps good deeds that I had done at some point prior that allowed this event to happen. Conversely, when I look at a time when ‘bad luck’ played its hand and analyze it, I am quick to understand that it was a bad decision, inaction or not making a connection before I needed it that caused it.

However, there are some things that have happened in my life that I would consider good luck and had no control over. Those include having the parents that I do, being introduced to my wife and having the awesome step-children that I do.
