Meet Jennifer Stein of Majesty in Motion Dance Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Stein.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Salsa dancing in 2002. I stumbled across Cafe Sevilla and I met David Stein, the professional Salsa dancer. He introduced me to this style of dance and way of life. Majesty in Motion was his dance company that he started in 2002 with 1 dance team. I was a dancer in that company as a hobby. I worked full time in the corporate world and when my job was eliminated in 2003, David asked me to dance full time. I trained every day and assisted in his group classes twice a week. It was a long and hard journey but worth every moment. In 2005, David and I got married, we now have a 10-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son. Majesty in Motion grew to 2 teams and we were growing rapidly. We have traveled the world teaching and performing at numerous Salsa conventions.

In February 2017, we opened up our own dance studio with 2 rooms. We offer group classes 7 days a week and have 4 co-directors with 7 teams! We work hard and we have an amazing team of staff and dancers that contribute to our growth and success. We host events throughout San Diego, Cafe Sevilla Tuesday through Thursday and we are also at Tango Del Rey in Pacific Beach every Friday where you can dance at night!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In any business, you have ups and downs. In 2008, we lost a lot of team members, classes were low, and we just had a new baby. It was a struggle to make ends meet. It seemed like an easy decision to let go of our dance dream and get a job with health benefits, paid vacations, etc.

However, both David and I have a true passion for this dance and we weren’t going to let our dreams go that easy. We worked harder, trained harder and we found inspiration to get back into the game. It wasn’t a smooth ride, but we overcame our struggles and are striving now.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Majesty in Motion Dance Company – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
