Meet Jenny Scholl of Greatness Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Scholl.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was living in beautiful Manhattan Beach in an ocean view apartment, steps from the strand, working with my best friends making great money as the top salesperson on the West Coast for the AdTech company I had helped grow from 40 employees to 400, moving from our headquarters in Raleigh, NC to establish our presence in Los Angeles, CA, and taking the wild ride from startup through the IPO process to publicly traded company. By all accounts, I had done it. I was living the life, I was what others considered a success. Yet I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more I was meant to be doing.

I started to ask myself the hard questions, what was my purpose? Was my work fulfilling me and aligned with that purpose? What could I be doing to make an impact and create a life that I truly loved? I didn’t have all the answers, but I decided to make it a mission to follow my “shine” – to live a life that ignited me, that lit me up so that I could share that life with others. I started saying yes to more things that excited me and peaked my curiosity, and saying no to the things that felt heavy or left me drained.

Travel was one of the things that excited me and one that I had put on the back burner for my career. When a friend suggested we travel to SouthEast Asia over the holidays, I said yes. It was during that trip in January 2016 that I met my now business partner and Greatness Foundation founder Mike Sherbakov in Siem Riep, Cambodia. We traded stories and in response to my quest for something more, he told me about the work he was doing to create an impact in the world and invited me to a house build in Mexico the next month. I attended that house build and my eyes were opened to a new community and a new world of possibilities.

I continued my travels, eventually transitioning out of my sales job and very comfortable life (and paycheck) to spend 4 months traveling Europe and Africa to explore the world of Digital Nomads and Entrepreneurialism. I chased my curiosity and intuition all over the globe, yet every path kept leading me back to the work and mission of the Greatness Foundation.

It didn’t take long for me to make the move down to San Diego and devote myself full time to Greatness and to our mission to create a better world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no, but that’s what’s makes it such an adventure! Leaving a good life, a great income and an amazing group of friends in Los Angeles to make the move to the unknown world of growing a business and establishing a life in San Diego was definitely scary at first and a decision many didn’t understand.

Overcoming my own doubts and fears, following my intuition even though I had no guarantee how it would all turn out, finding my place and my voice within the business and learning to step into my personal greatness are all challenges that I’m continually overcoming.

I’m grateful for the challenges as they have provided huge opportunities for growth. I’ve learned so much about myself in such a short period of time as I continue to push outside of my comfort zone to do bigger and greater things.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
What sets us apart is our community of world changers (50k+ strong!) on a mission to make a difference. It’s something we haven’t been able to find anywhere else and we’re humbled and honored by the individuals who continue to be the heartbeat of the organization.

The Greatness Foundation is built around three main pillars:
– BE: We share the tools to uncover your individual purpose and provide inspiration to do great things.
– DO: Using purpose as fuel to take inspired action, we provide the resources to start and grow your purpose-driven business.
– GIVE: Providing opportunities to give time, treasure and talent through our non-profit focused on basic needs and education projects around the world.

We pride ourselves on authenticity and transparency and invite our community members to see the impact of their contributions around the world by joining us on a house build in Mexico, visiting the school we support in Nicaragua or communities we serve in Kenya. Anyone and everyone are welcome.

The shift that occurred when I aligned my personal and professional life with my purpose was powerful and I know I am now doing my “something more” in helping others find the same.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small, coastal town in North Carolina in a supportive community that encouraged me to try it all!

I played soccer, tennis, sang in the choir and performed in school musicals, I was part of the student government and ran our local FCA chapter, I coached t-ball and was an ocean lifeguard during the summer. I loved to read, I was a member of our news team, getting to school early to record the daily news that would be viewed by my classmates. I loved learning how others lived through books and interviews and being able to tell their stories. I was active in our church community and spent a week each summer in the Appalachian Mountains repairing homes in towns that had been left poor after the coal mines closed.

Looking back, it was these experiences that established my love of community, of experiencing how others lived and how we can make a difference using what we have, where we are. It’s also no surprise that I thrive in a startup, entrepreneurial environments where I can continue to be a “Jen of all trades” continually learning and applying new skills.

I am grateful for my family, particularly my parents who instilled in me at an early age to give to others, to never quit on a commitment, to follow curiosity, to give things a try and to love the ocean.
