Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Woudenberg.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Connecting people to new friends, places to explore, and passions to uncover has always been a natural part of my life. In today’s noisy world, watching a connection bloom brings me joy and that is what carved the path to my career in marketing. To me, human-focused marketing gives brands life—it turns an intangible brand into a persona that appeals to constant human truths: to believe, belong, and find meaning. This is why I created my own marketing agency, so I can partner exclusively with women-owned companies I truly believe in. While supporting the universal sisterhood of women lifting up our economy and each other, beautiful connections are created!
These human truths have also punctuated my “Out of Office” life. I find a deep sense of belonging when I am surfing, paddleboarding or just splashing around the ocean with friends and family. This feeling has lead me to volunteer with surf therapy nonprofits and overcoming an incredibly intimidating wave, writing children’s books. As a new mother, I searched the internet (because quarantine life is giving us all plenty of time for this!) for books about moms and son surfing and exploring nature together. I found a wide variety of books, baby clothes, and blankets about surfing and going on adventures with dad. However, the internet is deprived of representing stories about exploring mother nature and surfing with mom. This absence became the north story for my latest children’s book, Waves of Love: Surfing with Mommy. The book, written in the voice of my baby boy, teaches kids about pregnancy, surfing, and how to be an advocate of mother ocean!
Has it been a smooth road?
The ocean is never smooth every day and neither is life! When my husband and I planned to start a family, we both worked for companies we loved and felt secure with our great health insurance. Then COVID-19 hit and flipped our world around. Within a few days of each other, we both lost our jobs, health insurance, and a bit of our sanity from not being able to enjoy daily life out in the world with our friends. We went through the phases of fear, the anxiety of uncertainty, and the boredom of just being at home all the time. However, humans are the most resilient creatures on the planet, and we both decide to fly straight into our big dreams. He took the leap and started his own company: www.defithelimits.com. For me, this meant writing children’s books, starting my own marketing agency, and developing a website: www.JennyWoudenberg.com. Doing all of this isn’t easy, especially while being pregnant during a global pandemic. With love, support, and the attitude of “just make it work” here we are! And yes, starting new companies during a pandemic and right before having your first baby is definitely scary but amazing at the same time!
We’d love to hear more about your business.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world,” has been my life motto and it has guided my career path:
Marketing: I have 10+ years of marketing and coaching experience in a wide variety of industries such as: law firms, medical device companies, tech companies, finance, nonprofits, fashion brands, wellness, and cybersecurity. I love new challenges and creatively turning a complex, highly-regulated company into a brand that is friendly and memorable. I only take on clients that I truly believe in, which means I work as if their company is also my big dream — not just a paycheck.
Children’s books: Mothers are so much more than a caregiver, they have their own hobbies, careers, goals, and do it while battling all-day-long-morning-sickness and pregnancy struggles. Wow, what warriors! I want my books to shine a light on how amazing mothers are and show off their full selves – from their business ventures to ocean adventures to the pure love they have for their children and our planet. Additionally, I to show little kids that even though they are young, they can still be an advocate of caring for mother nature and lifting others up. Their actions matter and they truly can make their community a more positive place for all.
Mindfulness surf coach: Surfing isn’t about crushing big waves and showing off. It is about connecting back to where you come from – a mother’s womb of salty water. Surfing is about healing, recharging, ‘sea-sterhood,’ having fun, and feeling fully alive. My classes are for women who want to overcome fears of the ocean, heal from self-doubt, and want to learn the basics of surfing in a safe space. A class includes meditation, yoga (I am a certified yoga teacher), poetry, lots of hugs, surfing whitewash, and sisterhood. Note: I am not a licensed therapist. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
1,000% – San Diego is bursting with the nicest and happiest people in the country! We support and celebrate each other – community growth over competition. If living intentionally, San Diego is a place that you can create a life that you don’t need to focus on “self-care” or taking lots of vacations. Self-care and vacations are just naturally infused into everyday life. From going on a beach walk with a friend to eating delish and nutrient-dense produce from a local farm or just enjoying our golden sun at an outdoor concert, serotonin is being sprinkled on us each day.
