Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all starts with Culinary school and wanting to be a chef. I worked at catering companies and restaurants to get my chops and then became a mother. I turned to the grocery retail industry and lead bakery departments at a couple different grocery chains.
I met my fiance at Whole Foods Market! After finding my love, I went back to cooking and to catering again. I found that I have a great sense of detail and I am very solution oriented. Always having a backup plan and having so much experience in the Back of House, (kitchen) it made the transition to the Front of House, very easy for me.
This was when I started my company. Why not do it myself? I know the ins and outs and front and back of events, why not? So, in June of 2015, J. Ellen & Company, was born. Me, Jessi Davis, as the “Mother of Events!” Others might call me the “Owner | Executive Coordinator,” but hey, that’s fine too!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Leads and time. After many long 16 hour days of catering, I hurt my back badly. I needed a break and I started to look for a desk job for the first time in my life. I started working for a digital marketing company, and I picked up some great habits. That helped me realize it could be great to own my own business. Do my own marketing, and sell my success. Maybe, I could work for myself eventually. Wow, what a concept!
J. Ellen & Company – Weddings & Events – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I really enjoy being a boutique planner. I do not work with over 100 guests or couples that have a budget of over $20,000. I work with a lot of DIY brides. I provide 3 different packages so brides and grooms can choose their own adventure! They can use my services to the extent of their wedding needs!
I am way more available and involved than the contracts say. That being said, I like to “under promise and over deliver!” Clients love to receive more than they pay for, and I am guilty of doing that consistently. I love events and marketing! I am so lucky to have my business, it is my passion, I am so excited to see what J. Ellen & Company, can grow up to be in the next 5 years.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is when I get to see all the planning and hard work come to fruition and the event is a success!
