Meet Jessica Douthit of Little Foodie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Douthit.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My co-founder and I met while working together at a healthcare start-up company in 2012 and immediately became close colleagues and lifelong friends.

We have a lot of similar interests – we are both entrepreneurs in life sciences and healthcare, we adore spending time with our families, we love exploring new restaurants, we appreciate great design, and we enjoy experiencing new adventures. We also have both always been very passionate about health and wellness, which is was what led us into the healthcare field in the first place.

We founded Little Foodie because the majority of Americans are in a very poor health trajectory and we want to create a movement to change this. Breaking unhealthy eating habits can be so hard to do, especially when the baby food industry is loaded with sugars and fillers and being in the biotech field, we often see the impact of these through disease developments that can be prevented.

At Little Foodie, our mission is simple. Through our brand, we are helping to TEACH little ones about delicious, nutritious, and wholesome foods ENABLE parents to make informed and healthier food choices EMPOWER each generation to take action for a healthier world. Through our 100% organic cotton items, we incorporate nutritional facts and memorable phrases that get the whole family involved in the conversation of a healthy lifestyle.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think with any business there are always challenging moments. For us, we took almost a year to launch as we were developing and re-developing the ideas and products. The most important piece has been to stay persistent.

We both know the bigger mission we have in helping to improve health and wellness by making it a habit from a young age and so we constantly keep that top of mind so that we can tackle the challenges we have with the right mentality.

The other challenging part has been staying focused. We have so many exciting ideas about where the company can go and new collections we can launch.

It makes the business so much fun but can also be distracting so, for now, we are keeping them under wraps and staying focused on growing our awesome classic collection while having a clear product pipeline for the future as well.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Little Foodie is a San Diego kids clothing and gifts company creating a movement for a healthier and happier future for our kids. Our collection of onesies and toddler t-shirts feature adorable, brightly-colored fruit and vegetable cartoon characters with a memorable message.

Our clothing is stylish, comfortable, durable, and made with 100% cotton fabric. Plus, each comes complete with a tasty tidbit of good nutrition info right on the label! We are known for the quality of our clothing and how soft it feels as well as the mission we stand for.

So many of our customers love that they can incorporate fun into fruits and vegetables that can sometimes be so boring for their kids. We are so happy that we can help in those conversations and be a catalyst for starting a strong foundation in those children and families.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, absolutely. San Diego seems to be so forward thinking when it comes to healthy living, and our Kale-ifornia dreaming character happens to be one of our top-sellers, so it really goes well together.
