Meet Jill Herman of J. Megan Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Herman.

Jill, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been in the interior design industry for over 15 years. My love for interior design started at an early age. As a child I understood that my surrounding greatly impacted the way that I felt. I would “remodel” my bedroom every couple of years. That understanding has blossomed into a successful business. My passion for honoring my client’s homes as the place where they relax, regenerate and reconnect is at the foundation of everything I do. That drive to provide a beautiful charging station for as many people as I can took me from starting as gofer in a small custom drapery company, to waiting tables full time while perusing my education at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, to becoming in interior designer at Ethan Allen to finally being the owner of J. Megan Interiors.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not. I don’t think that success can ever be found after traveling down a smooth road, but that in itself is the reward. Every major decision, leaving a full time job to start my 1st business, selling that business, and all of the other cliff divers in between have been terrifying and thrilling at the same time. It’s the moments following those pinch your nose & jump decisions that have been my most rewarding.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I can give the stock answer and say that I offer full service interior design. I do floor planning, furniture selection, kitchen and bath remodeling and custom window treatments (which I consider my specialty), but… that’s what interior design is. I believe what sets me apart from other interior designers is my relationships with my clients. A great design starts with trust and understanding. Let’s be honest, the process of a remodel can be really difficult on the home owner. The endless decisions, watching parts of your home being torn up and still going about their day to day can really take a toll. My job is to make it as easy on my clients as possible.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The world of interior design all comes down to creating the warm feeling home. Where ever you reside is home. It our job as interior designers to create that warm feeling, your zip code does not change that.
