Meet Jimmy Ovadia of The art of Jimmy Ovadia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Ovadia.

Jimmy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Around 2008 I started working with indie bands like Louis Xiv. Doing album work. I was also a gallery artist at the time as well. Fast-forward a few years later and found myself doing more live art. A festival called California roots in Monterey contacted me interested in having me paint on stage. This concert and festival as health where the Monterey Pop Festival is held in the 60s and performances go on in the bowl stage which happens to be the same place where many incredible ask like Janice the who and Jimi Hendrix burned his guitar. Have gotten to perform on the stage with groups like 311 Ziggy Marley Iration Mike love and Hirie.

The festival is also where I was introduced to my good friend Matisyahu, year after doing the festival for the first time Matis he decided to have an album cover contest for a vision that he had an end of thousands of entries without him knowing that I was the artist my artwork was chosen. This move is huge and helped launch my career as the album cover showed up worldwide and even on Jimmy Kimmel. People began to take notice and soon after that, I was asked to do a spot on the show Skin Wars fresh paint with RuPaul.

The show is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was challenging and take me out of my comfort zone having to learn body painting for the first time ever while competing. When I came back to San Diego I ended up linking up with some of the founders of La Bodega and Salud and doing an offshoot project in National City called the white owl is a thriving artistic little community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road is never smooth and obstacles are always part of it many things have come up with my life choice and gig. From relationships to vehicle problems but it’s all part of it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The art of Jimmy Ovadia story. Tell us more about the business.
My business transformed into doing live art on stage with musicians and touring with bands aside from doing some incredible album covers to represent some amazing musicians I was able to join forces with the band that I admire and love my business transformed into doing live art on stage with musicians and touring with bands aside from doing some incredible album covers to represent some amazing musicians I was able to join forces with the band that I admire and love.

Going on about 3 years I became part of AJ Froman as a weird hybrid full-time painter/band member. It’s something that I’m incredibly proud of I feel like it’s broken boundaries and barriers for painters to step into a new light they’ve allowed me to provide a unique platform to shine with no limits.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel like luck has played a big part and I’ve been very fortunate that the work that I do allows me to collaborate with anyone that’s open to art.
