Meet John Grimm

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Grimm.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
All my life I skateboarded, but when I was 18 I was in a car accident breaking my back and neck leaving me paralyzed and unable to walk. That’s when I traded skating for art. I had to express myself somehow, so I started inking and drawing comic book characters while in rehab to learn how to walk again. After that, I was hooked on art. I got out of the hospital and enrolled in art school where I never really fit in. I felt like an outcast, so I dropped out and pursued everything from typography to canvas painting. A buddy of mine had been tattooing for ten years and on a whim asked if I wanted to apprentice for him. I finally found my place in the art world. Tattoos. I have now made a full recovery and skateboard and tattoo every day.

Please tell us about your art.
I tattoo. I love lettering but also incorporating it with old school traditional tattoo elements. I just want to give the old sailor tattoos a little gangster new age flair.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Just live and breathe art and creativity. Live pure and do you. No matter how scary it is. Unapologetically be you.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Right now I’m basically running everything through Instagram. You can follow me @jgrim666 or @jgrimm__.
