Meet Jonathan Aymin of Common Sense Events in North County – San Marcos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Aymin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jonathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a love for people and socializing and food and while I was in college, in addition to working a bunch of other jobs, I would pick up occasional shifts with a local San Diego catering company. Seeing the event industry firsthand was great, but I quickly realized that the staffing companies who currently served the industry were lacking in customer service and quality overall. From the age of ten, I’ve always been pretty entrepreneurial, so while I was finishing college and after I saved up a few hundred dollars in tips from another job waiting tables, I started CSE! I was newly married at the time and my wife was interested in pursuing a law career, but I convinced her to handle operations for us and that turned out to be a great decision! Growing the business has been something I am extremely passionate about and marketing and sales, as well as customer service, (of course), have been areas I naturally gravitate towards and enjoy.

I like staying busy and working hard with a goal in mind and the past years, the goals of serving people, solving problems, making money, and having fun have been crystallized and are helping push us forward! I love finding ways to create solutions to businesses (labor) problems by solving other people’s problems (our team members need to make money) and this fuels and inspires me to keep hustling! We now have three children and one on the way and are excited about what the upcoming years of business will hold! Follow us along in our journey on social media!

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road! So many times, fear can hold you back and cause you to second guess yourself. I have found that your mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy and that listening to your gut and making decisions based on what you know pays off. Some struggles we faced were growing without any money upfront except for the bit of cash ($300) we started with. Other struggles have been knowing how and who to hire to keep the quality of our service strong. Hiring for a small business is always tricky and we have been no exception. Time management has been another learning experience and learning to set priorities correctly and what to spend time on overall is something we are still learning!

Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
We are an event staffing company! That means we hire, vet and train team members and match them with hospitality and food and beverage companies who need extra help for events temporarily. We typically work with catering companies, event venues, wedding, and event planners, and also work quite a bit with private clients in their homes. We specifically supply waiters, bartenders, bussers, security personnel, brand ambassadors and other positions, but we specialize in waiters and bartenders! We are proud of our reputation with our clients and our commitment to total customer service and client satisfaction! As the owner, I regularly work events and am as hands-on as humanly possible to make sure we are delivering on the commitment to excellent service we talk about and promise to our clients. We also care tremendously about the people who choose to work with us! We know that nothing we do is possible without them and we are thankful for the dedication and hard work that goes into what they do. Our team regularly perform “miracles” at events and set themselves apart from other event workers by going the extra mile to make sure they can help in any way possible. it is this culture and our team that we are most excited about!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
San Diego is incredible, it is a small town and a very large town at the same time! We are a port town, a navy town, a party town, a vacation destination, a center for biotech science and research and so much more! We have some of the best cuisines ever, obviously tremendous weather, some damn good bars, and we are such a melting pot of different cultures from across the world, from Little Italy, to the Gaslamp, to further up in North County where many areas are more rural. We have such a diversity that makes this city truly exciting.

As far as things I like least, we have pretty bad traffic, our sports teams need help;), and…I can’t think of really much else! Cost of the living being high perhaps?
