Meet Jonathan Maki of MFI Works in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Maki.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jonathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I got in and actually became a mom and pop store, I saw a much bigger need for this group to grow and elevate. Mom and pop store owners often have to work all the time investing all their time, money, and energy in their business and still don’t make enough to get ahead. I witnessed firsthand business problems negatively affect our client’s mental and physical health. I don’t want to see this to persist. Now I have even bigger passion and compassion to help small business owners than when I first started my business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No it hasn’t. One of our challenges is to communicate our value to our fellow business’s owners, also prospects. We help service based small business owners in tax, business consulting, and real estate arenas. We are unique and do not fit in a box as a typical tax firm, business consulting firm, or real estate firm. These three things are interconnected, and it makes sense to combine these three services specifically for small business owners. Many business owners are not aware of how these three areas are interconnected. And since most people have never seen a company like us, it can be a challenge for us to communicate people what we do.

We help service based small business owners
-grow income and spend smartly
-optimize taxes while addressing audit risk
-purchase homes and build wealth through real estate

-completeness – we are distributors, motivators, and educators.
We don’t just tell our clients what to do. Our goal is empowering people who work with us by educating them what they need to know as business owners. We think these things set us apart from others too.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I met my partner in life and business surfing in Waikiki. How lucky is that! There were times when opportunities were presented, and I was not ready. There were times I was ready and there was no opportunity. And other times I was ready, opportunities presented themselves, and it was magical. The bigger thing I have learned is to not wait for good luck or get stuck pondering bad times. More important thing is to keep the positive attitude and try to the best every moment… to show up, present and ready.
