Meet Jordana Stevian of Jordana Stevian Marketing & Photo in North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordana Stevian.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Knowing myself to be a creative person, I decided to go to art school for college and discovered my love for photography at Columbia College in Chicago. There, I studied Commercial photography and learned how to light the heck out of a bowl of cereal! When it came time to graduate and translate this into work, I did the only thing I could think to do and ended up working for several local wedding photographers. And I was still doing so during my transition to San Diego in 2007. It wasn’t until shortly after I moved here that the company I was working for laid me off and I was in a new city, on the other side of the country from my family, jobless and terrified! I ate ramen, had creditors calling me and did temp work when it was available. I also applied to nearly every open position on Craigslist! I even had a stint at the security department at the Omni hotel, which is laughable considering I’m about as scary as a… well, just not scary.

Several months later, I received a call from a local SEO company, and that began my journey into marketing. After eight years in SEO and another 3 working for a digital agency downtown and at my very wit’s end, I began working with a career coach friend to help me paint a picture of my dream career. In an act of fate, I was laid off from my agency job and my life began to turn in a direction that was more true to my heart. I began considering working for myself, a dream I’d had for many years, but could never really seem to fathom. Several months later, and I have a number of my own photography and marketing clients and I am working as a contract marketing consultant for a local firm. I can eat more than just Ramen, although I do like to indulge every now and again, and am getting to do many of the things I couldn’t seem to fit into my schedule with my overwhelming day job.

After many years in agency life, and the stresses that come along with that, I’m making my own schedule and doing work that I love. I get to ease into my day instead of rush, rush, rushing! I’m working with clients that inspire me and I know the work that I am doing for them is of great benefit! Every day I learn something new and I am blessed with some of the kindest clients on the planet. I’m finally getting paid to do what I love!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been easy, but I try to remember that when things break down, it’s because there is a breakthrough ahead and I ALWAYS land in a better place than where I started. I believe these moments are presented to us for our own personal growth and so we can see ourselves as strong, marvelous beings!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jordana Stevian Marketing & Photo story. Tell us more about the business.
I provide marketing, photography and website design services to small businesses to medium-sized businesses. This includes product photography, videos, SEO, website design and recommendations, marketing audits, etc. I also do headshots, children, family and wedding photography.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I love the concept of luck, but I believe it’s more about having a positive mindset and a belief that things will always work out for the highest good. This has helped me get through loss and unemployment several times throughout my career.
