Meet Jorge Vizcaino of Aero-Environmental Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Vizcaino.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I founded the company in 2002 and developed our environmental, health and safety consulting services over the course of more than 10 years. I am a Certified Industrial Hygienist, (M.A., CIH, CHMM, CAC, CDPH), Certified Hazardous Material Manager, and Certified Asbestos/Lead Consultant with over 15 years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety evaluations and compliance activities. and I have collaborated extensively with several large industrial manufacturing facilities, commercial property management firms, construction firms, state and county government agencies, and school districts. Our work has included risk assessments into health and safety hazards in industrial facilities, indoor air quality evaluations of school districts, as well as the development and delivery of lead and asbestos risk management projects for public and commercial projects.

We also conduct industrial hygiene exposure assessments in industrial and commercial environments. We are also currently actively involved in statewide industrial hygiene work, lecturing and consulting in Southern and Northern California on issues of occupational health. We are currently a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals, and the Indoor Air Quality Association. Our specialty services include asbestos and lead paint pre-renovation and demolition surveys, lead in soil investigations, mold and moisture intrusion investigations, asbestos/lead/mold abatement and remediation oversight and clearances, naturally occurring asbestos (NOA) dust mitigation plans and associated air monitoring, environmental due diligence (Phase I and II ESA), asbestos and lead awareness training, and Noise and Chemical Monitoring, transportation, and environmental regulations.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles we have encountered over the years have included employee turnover, economic recession, overcoming highly technical challenges for some of our clients, and the challenge of continuing to constantly improve our services and qualifications to better serve the needs of our clients.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aero-Environmental Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in conducting surveys of different work environments, review the data with our experienced team of Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professionals, determine and document any exposure issues, and creating pragmatic, personalized programs to reduce or eliminate existing and potential health and safety hazards. We provide a solution to our clients to:
• Eliminate unnecessary costs
• Reduce workers’ compensation costs
• Prevent damaging litigation
• Ensure that compliance programs are current and doing what they are supposed to do
• Maintain outstanding employee and community relations

We provide accurate assessments and offer customized cost effective and immediate solutions while keeping an eye on long-term savings and environmentally responsible results.
• Industrial hygiene evaluations and investigations
• Indoor air quality (IAQ) evaluations and investigations
• Environmental evaluations and investigations
• Asbestos and lead-based paint (LBP) consulting services
• Microbiological (e.g. bacteria and fungi) investigations and evaluations
• Specification preparation and monitoring and administration of the specification for a multitude of large and small projects, including asbestos abatement LBP, mercury contamination, bird feces, and microbiological projects.

We audit employer health and safety programs and respiratory protection programs, illness and injury prevention programs, etc. al. write Operations and Maintenance (O&M) programs.

With our Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs), California Certified Asbestos Consultants,
and a California Certified Lead Inspector/Assessor, we can be where our client want us, with the knowledge they require. Aero-Environmental Consulting has serviced projects throughout California and Florida.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The occupational health and safety industry is projected to grow 4 percent from 2017 to 2024.

Specialists will be needed to work in a wide variety of industries to ensure that employers are adhering to both existing and new regulations. In addition, technological advances will allow for the use of new machinery, and specialists will be needed to create the machinery, as well as procedures to ensure its safe use.

In addition, specialists will be necessary because insurance costs and workers’ compensation costs have become a concern for many employers and insurance companies. An aging population is remaining in the workforce longer than past generations did, and older workers usually have a greater proportion of workers’ compensation claims. Also companies with more certifications may enjoy more growth opportunities
