Meet Josh Roush of Movetic in Leucadia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Roush.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Josh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Southern California, where creativity, arts, design, music, and action sports influenced my life, I developed a strong passion for aesthetics. Growing up, I began skating, surfing, and snowboarding at a very young age while simultaneously playing the traditional sports such as football, hockey, baseball, wrestling, track and field, and cross country. All of which taught me about dedication, focus, tenacity, the hustle, and pushing myself to new heights.

Throughout the years, I developed a strong passion for all things creative: photography, art, video, design and telling authentic stories. At the core of everything I do (business and personal), I genuinely care about people and enjoy getting to know them for who they are. I am driven by spreading optimism and pushing out good vibes daily. Each person (and business) has their own story, own journey, and I love giving people confidence in who they are inside and outside, which to me is the most the beautiful part of life. As I always say, be you, it’s the one thing that separates you in this world — rock it and own it, because it’s you!!

When I was 18, I was fortunate to join a fraternity where I was encouraged to be myself. From trying new things, running with my crazy ideas, and getting extremely involved with my academics: marketing, they truly pushed me to be the best version of myself. (as cliche as that sounds, it’s true) I do not know where I would be without SigEp: the people, the mentorship, and guidance was paramount to who I have become today.

For me, it wasn’t until I attended SDSU when I started to come into my own and begin the stages of pouring my passion for creativity. I became extremely involved on campus by holding positions and joining the following organizations: AD Club SDSU, Rotaract, Sig Ep, Entrepreneur society and American Marketing Association. Starting at the age of 19, I began my professional marketing & design experience, through working for companies such as Hewlett-Packard (HP), Reef, Branchout, as well as freelancing on the side for numerous brands as well as working for a local advertising agency.

Then after working at the local advertising agency in town, I was let go unexpectedly and at the age of 24, I made the leap to start my own company with a buddy of mine from the fraternity. (Side note: when I 20, I wrote down my goals on a sticky note, and one of which was to start a company by the age of 25, which is crazy to see what happens when you believe in yourself and how you can manifest things in your life. Two years ago, I found that exact note at my parent’s house — what a trip.)

Fast forward, through leveraging my branding and design experience, from small companies to some of the largest companies in the world, I set out on a journey to create great work for great people. Thus Movetic, the unison of Movement and Aesthetics was born and four years later, we now feel like we are just getting started 😃

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Is anything smooth or how you expect it to be in life? hahaha. I can you tell you this – at the beginning of starting Movetic, I was definitely living from paycheck to paycheck, month to month for a while.

As a business owner, I can tell you there are always struggles – some bigger than others, but it is how you deal with them is what truly defines you and separates yourself from other companies. To me, the struggles we have encountered have been not only the best lessons but have pushed us to places we did not think were possible. Four years in, I am still dealing with struggles, but I am willing to deal with them because I feel so strongly about my team (made props to them for them believing in me), our clients we work with and the positive impact we are able to make in this world.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Movetic – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Movetic is an award-winning brand strategy and digital agency — one that fuses passion and energy with strategy, creative, and digital to create custom solutions that move brands forward in the modern world.

We are a collective of designers, strategists, wordsmiths, shooters, marketers, and technologists that are obsessed with creative perfection while solving complex business problems.

Simply put we focus on telling brands true stories through branding, website design and development, a full suite of creative solutions, and digital marketing. Being younger (age-wise) yet experienced has really helped us set our firm apart. Everyone wants to know how to attract the younger generation, therefore, companies started turning to us to help them best strategize around how they can integrate modern marketing and technology solutions that measure up to modern day consumer needs. (Hint: High quality creative, storytelling, media, and being authentic.)

Long gone are the days of just push marketing. Brands must develop real relationships with their customers and create experiences that add value to their life. Also, the brands that stand for something (interests, lifestyle, and values) and focus on the art giving first, will be the most successful.

I think we are most proud of the passion we have poured out in the last four years. We have worked with 60+ brands, spoken at the Art Institute of San Diego, AD Club SDSU, AD2SD, Ignite – Life on Fire, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and have been on numerous podcasts. Not mention, we’ve won 20+ awards (branding, design, and digital) — which includes the first gold ADDY we were awarded a few weeks ago. The ADDY was a massive win for us and now we are in the running for an ADDY on the National Level! I am beyond proud of the team on this!!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
At Movetic, we are most excited about growing the agency and making more of an impact in this world. We finally have the right team in a place where we are confident we can take on any challenge that comes our way.

Ultimately, I want to continually scale the agency the right way, while focusing on delivering high-quality creative. We know to be competitive in this digital-first marketplace, we must house creative and digital services under one agency, which we are set up for now.

Stay Moving is our tagline and there is nothing more exciting about living and breathing that lifestyle we set out for ourselves four years ago.
