Meet Julia Balto of Julia Balto Health Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Balto.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
All through college, I followed a pre-med track. I was majoring in community health and was so passionate about public and preventative health. I knew I wanted a career that would allow me to make a difference in people’s lives individually and on a larger scale. I had an image in my mind of sitting with my patients and really talking with them and advising them on nutrition and becoming more physically active.

After graduating, I took a year off to take the MCAT and apply to schools. It was around this time that I realized how miserable I was. Ironically, while I loved health and the idea of helping other people, my own health was a disaster. My diet consisted mainly of pizza and alcohol, I never exercised, I was stressed all the time and not sleeping. The anxiety and depression I’d struggled with for years had completely taken over. I was miserable and hardly functioning.

That’s when I hired my first health coach and learned that there was a profession that did exactly what I’d envisioned for so long! I learned to take control of my health and knew immediately that I wanted to help others do the same.

I eventually pursued a Masters in Biobehavioral Kinesiology – the theory behind making successful, lasting changes to our habits, like exercise, and became a Certified Health and Wellness coach. Yep, there’s SCIENCE that tells us how we can change actually change our habits (and no it doesn’t involve being more disciplined or trying harder)! I learned how to take control of my mental health and completely manage my depression and anxiety by changing my habits – how I was eating, moving, and thinking.

Importantly, because changing our habits is HARD and especially hard if you’re battling depression or anxiety, I learned how to do it in a way that felt good and actually lasted. It changed my entire life. So today I work with ambitious women and help them to do the same.

I help women STOP constantly snapping at their partner and kids, canceling on friends, and numbing out at night with a bottle of wine or a bag of cookies. I teach them how to shift from feeling stuck, foggy, and overwhelmed to present, connected, confident and purposeful. I help women step into the happiest, healthiest version of themselves.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest hurdle I’ve faced in my mental health and in growing my business has been overcoming the belief that I’m not good enough.

I used to have all kinds of beliefs around my body as a woman. I never felt like I was pretty or thin enough. So I tried every diet and exercise program you can think of to try and ‘fix’ myself and made myself more miserable in the process. When my business started growing I felt like I wasn’t talented enough or didn’t have what it takes to be successful so I hid a lot and didn’t put my work out there.

Most of us struggle with this to some degree. I talk every day with women who are working so damn hard and still feel that they’re not good enough wives and mothers, they don’t show up in enough in their careers, they’re not educated enough, they’re not thin or sexy enough.

No matter how successful, gorgeous, popular, or intelligent you are, there can be this voice deep down reminding you that you’re still not enough.

What I learned and now teach my clients is that the only way through it is radical self-love and acceptance (which goes completely against everything we hear on a daily basis). You’re not broken, you are already so much more than enough and there’s nothing about you that needs to be fixed.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Julia Balto Health Coaching – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a health and mindset coach and expert on helping women thrive. I teach a revolutionary process full of science-based tools to deeply and fully love and honor yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically.

I help women tired of constantly battling their depression and anxiety, women who are done with the cycle of trying radical diets and exercise programs over and over again to fix themselves just to fail and end up feeling even worse about themselves.

I work with women one on one using an online video chat platform and in a group coaching program. I also speak and host local workshops on all things self-love, habits for health, motivation etc.

The thing that sets my work apart is that I come from a place that believes you are already enough, you’re not broken and don’t need to be fixed. We just need to peel back a few layers and get you back in touch with the healthy, happy woman buried inside. AND you don’t need more discipline, willpower or a quick fix. You need a step by step system and science-based tools to really shift your habits so that it’s a lasting lifestyle change.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My long-term plan is to open a wellness center here in San Diego so that women have a place to support each other, access quality holistic care, and find all the resources and tools they need to design lives that they absolutely love. It’s a bit further down the road but it’s a goal that excites me every single day as I keep working and moving forward.
