Meet Julie Pullman of Rise Wellness Coaching in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Pullman.

Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised here in sunny San Diego and did all the things I was “supposed” to do. I went to college, got a job in corporate America, met my husband, bought a house, got married, and had kids. Let me be very clear here, I love my life and wouldn’t change a single thing, but as my kids got older, I started to ask myself what my true purpose was. I’d love to say that answer came easily to me but the truth is, it was a journey to get to where I am today.

After having kids, my body started to change but it wasn’t my weight I was concerned about, it was my actual health. I started getting sick all the time and couldn’t figure out why. I was doing what I thought were all the right things: eating well, working out, sleeping as much as you can with two little kids. Yet for a solid year, I could pick up a cold getting my mail and then it would turn into a full-blown flu and I would be out for weeks.

After about a year of feeling like crap and doctors prescribing me countless antibiotics to fight off whatever they thought I had that week, I finally decided to take my health into my own hands. I quit my corporate job, went gluten free, started working in the fitness industry, and really started listening to my body.

Through this journey with my own health, my passion for fitness and nutrition grew. Fast-forward 12 years, my kids are now teens and between “Uber” trips shuttling them all over town, I actually found time to start pursuing my own dreams.

Here’s where my two teen girls come into play. My children are thriving, active teens with a good understanding of how to live a balanced life, and I’d like to say I can take some credit for that! However, I am deeply familiar with the challenge’s teenagers face every single day, and I’m also keenly aware how little support there is for them outside of the home. This is where the idea of Rise Wellness Coaching comes into the picture!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has it been a smooth road? Yes! I realize it would make things more exciting if I had a better story to tell you, but in all honesty, outside of my health issues after my second pregnancy, I have been very blessed with the trajectory my life has taken. That said, after leaving my corporate job 12 years ago, I always had this feeling in my heart that I was here to do more. It has taken me many years to figure out what exactly that is, but I’m thrilled to say that I’ve found my purpose, and I know I’m on the path I should be on.

Rise Wellness Coaching – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Getting healthier certainly doesn’t have to stink and can even be fun but I believe that the journey to health and wellness can be absolutely enjoyable with the right mindset, ideas, and opportunities.

I started Rise Wellness to ensure kids and teens can take care of themselves when parents aren’t there to watch their every move. We empower kids by teaching them the most valuable habits to care for their body and mind, while inspiring them to keep it up throughout their lives.

As a Certified Health Professional and Personal Trainer with a specialty in Youth Physical Activity, and most importantly a mom to two teen girls, I know that balance and wellness are possible for kids – with the right approach. I founded Rise Wellness Coaching to give teenagers information and inspiration tailored to this unique time in their lives.

I work hands-on with my young clients to help them naturally adjust to making smarter food choices that they find compelling, finding activities they enjoy and will keep up with, taking better care of themselves during stressful times, ignoring social media noise, and much more.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would love to apply everything I’ve learned through this journey to as many people as I can. I created Rise Wellness as a vehicle to do just that. As the world is changing, so are we. Online resources and video conferencing are becoming more commonplace, which could allow Rise to reach teens worldwide.

Beyond that, my ultimate dream is to help educate disadvantaged communities with the essential resources needed to make better lifestyle choices. Let’s be honest, many of us are fortunate enough to have resources and a support system readily available to us. Sadly, this is not the case for most people in underserved populations and I would love to help change that.
