Meet Kalina Cardoso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalina Cardoso.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my career as a skiing instructor, then thought group exercise classes through college. After my graduation and the birth of my daughter in 2012, I became a personal trainer and a nutrition coach. I had so much passion for fitness and helping people improve their lives that I became a Fitness Manager for the company I worked in 2015.

In this position, I led personal training department of 12 trainers who I trained and mentored. After a while, I realized that I wanted to grow more and help people differently. This was when I started my own personal training, nutrition and life coaching company.

I am originally from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria (think Eastern Europe), but I have lived in San Diego, California since 2007. I am also a mom, a daughter, a sister, and a co-parent. I love learning, and I enjoy sharing knowledge, wisdom, and experience with people I cross paths with.

My love for fitness and curiosity about nutrition started when I was a teenager. I struggled with weight after I stopped competitive skiing in high school, so I started learning how to exercise in the gym and eat healthily. I loved seeing how my body changed and how my energy and happiness were better than ever.

My friends and classmates were inspired by how I changed my life and how fitness became my lifestyle. I decided to pursue an education in Exercise Science because I was an athlete growing up and I had just fallen in love with fitness. I liked learning about the human body and how it functions, moves and performs, but most of all I enjoyed learning how to ignite the fire in others so they could fall in love with fitness as well. After my junior year, I came to San Diego for the summer, and that summer never ended.

I built a life here, and I completed my education as a Fitness Specialist at San Diego State University. My personal pursuit of living a life I love led to multiple major shifts, changes, and transformations over the years. I had to learn how to let go of old patterns and beliefs that no longer served me and how to play big, stay in action, live from greatness, embrace integrity, take care of myself, and much more.

Devoting my life and career to supporting others to live life powerfully is a great motivation for me to be a role model and be the best version of myself mentally and physically. My more recent career change from Personal Training to Life Coaching was dictated by my own rapid personal growth and who I had become for my clients.

Most of my clients were expressing interest in the conversations we had during training and shared that the peace of mind they walked away with was an imperative part of their training. In the meanwhile, I was becoming more aware that often there were things getting in a way for a lot of people to achieve their health and fitness goals and they were not related to their fitness program but rather their mindset and beliefs…

After completing multiple life coaching programs, I was confident to have powerful conversations to support my clients move forward and remove the barriers that got in the way of them living their lives with joy, lightness, and energy beyond fitness and nutrition. As a coach, the main areas I help clients with are wellness, business, and personal relationships.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been smooth but long, and often with big hills. Hills so big that it made it impossible to see the top. There were times that I lost hope that my business would thrive but thanks to friends, coaches, and mentors, I was able to keep going and keep the vision alive until I could see my hard work pay off.

I believe that the support from my own mentor coach Steve, intuitive healer Jessika, personal trainer Carlos and all the books I’ve read and courses I took along the way is what brought me to this day. I’ve been in business for myself for two years, and I am not able to take on any new clients at this moment.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a coach. I work with busy overachievers who strive to be healthy, wealthy and wise. My clients often are working with me because they are starting a new business.

They need to be healthier/loose weight/get in better shape/learn to eat healthier or people who are discovering themselves after a long relationship that has ended. I am most known for my fitness and nutrition expertise and for my passion for personal growth. I take pride in supporting my clients to create lives that they truly love.

I believe that my diverse background, fitness and wellness experience and multiple big life transitions like immigration, divorce, and starting my own business which have been a catalyst for huge growth and personal expansion are all contributing to a unique coaching perspective.

Most clients search for a coach who is knowledgeable, compassionate, unbiased, supportive, successful and wise. I believe I bring all of these qualities to the table in a fun and fresh packaging.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Making pizza with my family. I enjoyed spending time with my parents in the kitchen and being part of their conversations.
