Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassandra Lerma.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My passion for hairstyling started at a young age. Since I can remember I would ask friends and family to allow me to style their hair. I started my training at California hair design academy in La Mesa and my love for the industry increased.
I believe my attention to detail and knowledge from great education and further training has gotten me to where I am today. The ability to make a client so happy by making them feel confident with my work inspires me to continue growing as a stylist. Creating memories and providing an overall amazing experience for my clients is extremely important.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A struggle I faced when I first began my career was learning how to promote my business. With time I realized word of mouth would be my best advertisement out there so as long as I kept doing my best and making clients happy they would continue referring people!
I also learned to stay consistent on posting my work on social media was very important for exposure and increased my chances of new potential clients. I have enjoyed the process and every challenge I have encountered in my career and believe it has helped me grow in an always growing industry.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hair by Kassandra – what should we know?
I personally specialize in color. Color corrections and balayage are what I do most and I would say that’s what I am most known for. Everyone has their own specialties and experience but I believe the education I have received in color, color corrections, extensions, blowouts, styling and more sets me apart.
As a professional hairstylist, I strive to become successful in every aspect of my business. Not only financially, but in continuing to build a clientele and maintaining great relationships I have with my clients. When my clients tell me coming into the salon feels like “girl time” or they feel like a new person every time they leave that makes me proud.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Throughout my hairstyling career, I have had mentors and supporters that I am very grateful for Heather Molchanoff is the owner of the Hot Seat Salon which is where I currently work, she has shown me that anything and everything is possible when you find balance in all aspects of life.
I don’t think I’ve met someone with a busier schedule and she just manages to it all so well while looking amazing at the same time. She’s definitely superwoman and just seeing the way she handles things has played a huge role in my life and has inspired me without her even knowing it. I have also been a part of Tiffany Hoover’s salon in downtown San Diego and would also consider her someone that has inspired me.
She is not only beautiful but she is a very successful, kind, and helpful. In the short time I got to work with her I learned so much and she was always a great support system not only as an owner but as a friend. I am very blessed to have worked with amazing people and I hope to be someone other stylists can look up to as well.
