Today we’d like to introduce you to Keira Fae Sumimoto.
Keira Fae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved to California in 2014, after living for eight years in Tokyo, Japan. After living in California for one year, I started getting sick. Not knowing if it was dietary issues or something more serious. I decided to go to the doctor for some answers. Prescribed five different pills. Some made me nausea and some stimulated my appetite. vicious cycle.
Not getting any better, I began looking for alternatives, which lead me to the cannabis plant. Immersing myself in the industry, I’ve tried on many hats. I wanted to contribute to the movement of plant-based holistic medicines.
After three years of self-medicating with the cannabis plant, I realize I wasn’t sick. I was suffering from PTSD and social anxiety. Cannabis has helped open me up and I began a dialogue with myself. On the path to self-healing and love. Never have I ever felt so strong, energetic, and happy.
I started Cannabis and Parenthood in 2017 after discovering I was pregnant. I wish to be a resource for women looking for alternatives. By building a community we can learn, share, and grow, together.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The rode has been pretty bumpy. Once the industry opened up and the legal road on its way to being build. It was like a green rush! Everybody and their grandma got into the industry. This created a potluck of products.
Some innovative and other down to earth. I’ve worked in the industry as a spokesperson, talent, chef, event organizer, graphic artist, advocate, influencer, CBD insurance, manufacturing… you name it.
With the sudden rush of interest, vetting out partners and employees has been the most challenging. Everyone is still trying to figure it all out operating in the grey zone. Every step towards legalization makes it worth it.
Please tell us about Cannabis and Parenthood.
Currently, I work with a number of companies. Openly, I am the Founder of Cannabis and Parenthood.
After experiencing criticism for being a cannabis consumer early-2017 when Keira discovered she was pregnant. Keira immediately dove into the very limited research and anecdotal evidence which inspired her to create Cannabis and Parenthood – a community that focuses on cannabis education, product awareness, and providing resources for women interested in the cannabis plant as alternative medicine.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There is nothing I want to change. I am very very happy how it is all playing out. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I am on the right path.
