Meet Kitchy Crouse of KC Interior Design LLC in Cardiff by the Sea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitchy Crouse.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kitchy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Brazil. I was not one of those people that know from a very young age what they want to be. What I remember is that I have always been very creative. By age 12, I have done sewing, crochet, knitting, macrame, etc. and have always been passionate and interested in creating anything with my own hands. Through my entire life, I collected small objects in case one day I could give some use for it. As a teenager, after homework, I would create necklaces and bracelets out of old and broken ones.

I then went to the Hospitality/Tourism school in the south of Brazil and after five years, I graduated and started working as an educational environmental guide at a State Park. I am a strong nature lover and I loved what I did but still, there was a missing link between all my creative ideas and my work. At age 26, I came to California to visit my sister that lived in Encinitas. In that trip, I met my husband. In 2010, I officially moved to California, got married and changed career. Since then, I have been living the dream in southern California.

It started with my husband bringing me to his jobs. He is a high-end cabinet and furniture maker and I think of him also as an artist. And once I encounter this new world, I knew I wanted to be an Interior Design. I went to college and just a few years later I opened my own business. I have been fortunate to have amazing clients and create some beautiful unique homes. I believe design is a reflection of who you are. As a global designer, I prefer quality over quantity and handcrafted over mass production.

In the future, I still want to create something mine like a furniture line. There is something special about creating  unique and specific to a home, client or a space.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think once you do what you love, things are easier. But there are always struggles. I think giving up a steady job and turning yourself onto a small business owner is a difficult decision. But if it is your passion, then you have to try it. It took me three attempts to finally decide that I can do it on my own.

Please tell us about KC Interior Design LLC.
I am the owner of KC Interior Design – a full-service interior design firm based in beautiful Cardiff by the sea, CA. The business philosophy is built on the dual concept of client service and design excellence. It is about how well the space, inside and out reflects the people in it, by inspiration, creativity, and function.

I take great pride in creating a relationship with my clients that allows this process to move smoothly and to achieve a space that reflects them effortlessly and uniquely.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Good questions… for me, I wouldn’t have done anything differently. That was my trajectory, I embraced my experience and I am thankful for that. But I do have some advice:

Work Hard, don’t give up and don’t take no for an answer!

Be kind, be loyal, be YOU!

– Listen to what others have to say (in and out of your business cycle).
– Think of you as a problem solver. And problems as opportunities.
– Use your social media to promote yourself or whatever you are selling.
– Keep it simple!
