Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanne Gustafson.
In August 2013, Jared had a work trip to Bend, Oregon. Deanne came with him since she used to be a news anchor there and wanted to see old friends. While in Bend, they saw kombucha on tap everywhere! At the time, Jared didn’t even know what kombucha was. Deanne was a huge fan but had only seen it in bottles.
After much research, they realized no one was distributing kegs of kombucha on tap in Southern California. Jared wanted to start his own company and do something that fit his healthy, active lifestyle. This seemed like a perfect match. In 2014 Jared and Deanne launched Kombucha On Tap (KOT). The company has grown to include an amazing team of hardworking, positive, healthy-minded individuals. KOT distributes wellness all over Southern California with a warehouse in San Diego and LA.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As entrepreneurs and business owners, every day there is a new challenge. We get to problem solve and we get to grow from it. Along the way, some of the struggles we’ve faced include learning what style kegs and equipment makes for the best customer experience, we’ve had inventory shipments not show up on time, and we even once had a hoodlum graffiti one of our vehicles overnight.
Please tell us about Kombucha On Tap.
We are a niche distribution company. We specialize in non-alcoholic kegs and offer the best brands of kombucha and cold brew coffee on tap. We are known for our amazing customer service and believe in not only going the extra mile for customers but also spreading happiness. We truly care about our customers and consider them part of the KOT family. We even deliver kegs to people’s homes in addition to all types of businesses!
Our motto is “We Drink On The Job.” We are proud of the positive work environment that we foster and we are even more proud of our amazing hard-working team! We are redefining the traditional “mom and pop” business as small business owners who dream big!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Jared – Going backpacking with my dad in Boy Scouts in the high Sierras.
Deanne – My family used to go to Yosemite every year, I loved those trips!
