Meet Kristen Tobiason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Tobiason.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Besides being an affluent designer and writer, I’m a very intuitive, mystical person. In 2016, I was working full time as a senior graphic production specialist at an advertising agency, which raising my special needs son on my own. That summer, my Mom, who was a source of encouragement & support, passed away. A huge episode of depression & complicated grief hit me. It was monumentally difficult to wash my own hair, let alone manage hundreds of animated digital banner ads. I tried to muscle through it, out of necessity, as well as pride. One after another, health issues occurred. I was completely burned out.

Being highly sensitive and empathetic, my boyfriend’s mother thought I would enjoy taking a Healing Touch energy therapy class. Not only did I receive healing for my depression & grief, I found a new vocation which gave me back the joy of life. I went on to study Healing Touch, as well as Reiki, and in June resigned my design position to start my own business.

All my design & writing background, healing experience — LIFE – is a part of my company, which I named “I am Balanced”, which addressed all quadrants of the whole person, body, mind, emotions & spirit. I assist clients in their healing process from their own grief, pain, depression, and trauma.

I still do freelance graphics, draw, take photos, raise my son, hang out and collect vinyl records with my boyfriend, and am volunteering with my autistic sister, who lives in a group home in Vista, CA. I love my life.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a Reiki & Healing Touch healer. My artistry is in my sensitivity to the human bio-field, it’s chakras, and frequencies. My message is that healing is possible. All of our darkness, our trauma, our experience helps us to understand what people are going through so we can go there and be with them when they are in it. We don’t have rescue them or tell them what to do, just comfort them. That’s where healing begins…from unconditional love, empathy & trust. People need that more than ever.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
People need unconditional love, compassion, deep listening and empathy more than ever. I am lucky to live amongst a flourishing and supportive holistic community. Hospitals and integrative medicine are using energy therapy more than ever. There is a wave of awareness rising amidst all the chaos. We need artists, healers, writers and dreamers in the world to translate the beauty for those who are blind.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
By energetically releasing depression & trauma, it frees the potential for creativity and expression. So many artists are on the verge of doing their great work, but are blocked by their own limited ideas and lack of self-worth. My work is helping these sensitive beings dissolve their walls to discover the passion within.

    Hi Kristen,
I know we were never really close, but I have always admired your artistic family from afar.
I just wanted to congratulate you, and let you know what an inspiration you are to me. I know how artistically sensitive you are, which lends itself to energy and empathy work. You will go far in the field! Brava!
I also wanted to share some personal experiences I’ve had with energy work on my daughter, Chloe.
First, she had what I wouldn’t call it energy work, but definitely a holistic approach, when she went to a Feldenkrais practitioner that did some really great work. I saw my quadriplegic daughter (who was very young at the time) putting together many move combinations which would have eventually led to rolling over and more. Sadly, we moved to the wilds of Kentucky, where that sort of thing isn’t practiced.
Secondly, Chloe (who is non-verbal) recently started being followed by a chiropractor who uses a craneo sacral energy worker to read her while she is being adjusted. IT’S AMAZING! They work as a team where they both talk about where Chloe is in need, or where she is stiff. The CS worker even found that Choe was injured before any of us knew!
Anyway, I’m glad you are who you are, and honored to know you.
    Warm regards,
