Meet Kristine Davis, Make Up Artist in Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Davis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have loved make up my entire life. My Mom is a red lipstick, blush and mascara wearing momma and I can remember playing in her things as far back as I can remember. I always had a love for the arts. I loved painting and drawing, but as soon as I was old enough to experiment with make up, it’s all I wanted to do! I was the girl in junior high and high school that all the girls would ask to put make up on them for dances. It was always so much fun and it came naturally to me replicating looks that we saw in the magazines. In college, I got my first professional make up job at Sephora. It was there that I really gained knowledge on different technique and products. I was always reading and researching the different things we carried and was always trying things out. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much at my time there.

Fast forward after studying business and graduating from college. I found myself in accounting. I could do the work, was fully capable of what the job entailed and had potential for growth and opportunity, but I wasn’t 100% happy. After some encouragement from one of my best friends, I made my Instagram, @kp_mua, to showcase my make up and hoped to attract clientele. Fortunately, it did just that. I began doing make up on the weekends for various events and weddings and business had picked up to the point where I was working seven days a week– Monday through Friday at my accounting job and make up on the weekends. After two and a half years of doing it as a side job, my husband encouraged me to pursue it full time. With his full support, I took the leap and was able to dedicate all my time to my clients and my business.

I am now doing what I am most passionate about. It is an amazing feeling to see how beautiful someone feels after I’ve done some glam and it’s the most amazing feeling that I am 100% happy in my line of work!

Has it been a smooth road?
The most challenging thing about building my business was building my clientele. For anyone who is starting out in any field, gaining the trust of your clients and colleagues is essential to any success. Luckily, in the initial stages of creating and building my make up business, I had an amazing friend who were willing and wanting to get their makeup done by me so I could post the photos on my Instagram. Thankfully, that attracted new clients who were happy with me and my service and were happy to refer me. My business began to grow and I began to make connections with other makeup artists and started to develop really great relationships with my clients!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business primarily consists of servicing the wedding industry. Although I do make up for all occasions, the bulk of my business is doing make up for brides and their bridal party. It truly is an honor to be a part of such a special day in someone’s life. That is definitely what I am most proud of– that someone trusts me to make them look and feel beautiful for such a monumental day.

I do think in this industry all makeup artists have their own unique style and personality. It is actually why I encourage all my potential clients to shop around and have bridal trials with multiple artists. The client should love the makeup, be happy with the service and should click with their artist. After all, we do spend a big chunk of the morning with them and help to set the tone of how the day should be– fun and amazing.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego is an amazing place for makeup artists! Wedding season is all year round here and is a hot spot for destination weddings. You truly cannot beat San Diego weather!
