Meet Dr. Kulvinder Kaur of Kreomics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kulvinder Kaur.

Dr. Kulvinder, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a doctor of genetics and the CEO and founder of Kreomics. We’re a Precision Wellness organization which offers the tools of genomic medicine to the Integrative Health and Wellness community.

I started out at the University of Oxford in England where, over a career spanning fourteen years, I became a prominent academic scientist receiving multiple accolades including a Master’s degree in Human Genetic Disease and a DPhil in Genomic Medicine. My post-doctoral research pioneered the use of disruptive technologies to enhance the healthcare industry through genetic diagnostics, and I am best known for major breakthroughs in cancer research, fertility and heart disease. My work at Oxford brought me to the attention of the San Diego biotechnology industry and in 2014 I was invited to continue my research in the United States as an ‘Alien of Extraordinary Ability’.

A year after my move to California, I had my first experience of integrative medicine and it shifted my whole paradigm as it relates to health and wellness. Since then, I have applied my love of genetics to understanding the scientific basis of holistic healing. My work has been presented on the TEDx stage, where my talk entitled ‘Be The Change You Wish to See in Your Cells’ received a five hundred person standing ovation. At TEDx, I outlined my vision for a society built on greater compassion through an understanding of our genetically encoded subconscious responses to different environmental stimuli.

I am a graduate of the Encinitas Soul of Yoga’s 200 hours of Hatha and Kundalini Teacher Trainings. Through Kreomics, I combine my love of the Yogic Ancient Wisdom traditions with my deep academic training at Oxford, to offer a unique perspective on the interface of science and Spirituality.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles we’ve faced have provided the most incredible growth opportunities for Kreomics and ultimately set the foundation for the way we wish to serve as a company.

The seeds for the company were planted over 10 years ago when I watched my dad die in a great deal of pain and indignity after six months of intense suffering which resulted from the treatment he received in conventional medicine. It made me realize that the intention of all of his healthcare had been to prevent death, as opposed to support a living.

At Kreomics we re-imagine the purpose of health and wellness as a space of empowerment to support living fully.

This intention has presented many opportunities for learning over the years. In the academic laboratories of Oxford, it was easy for me to direct my research towards providing medical solutions which contributed to a better life, however, after being recruited to the biotechnology industry, the shift in focus to a more treatment-based offering proved challenging to reconcile with my beliefs around health and lifestyle.

This dichotomy between my motivation to offer empowering wellness solutions and the needs of the biotech industry ultimately gave me the impetus I needed to form my own company. Making the leap from a conventional research-based career into developing my own business offering scientific solutions has provided some of the biggest challenges and greatest joys of my life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kreomics – what should we know?
Kreomics was formed to empower individuals in their health and wellness choices with the tools of genomic medicine. We offer scientific support to the integrative health community and provide individuals with data to support their wellness decisions. Our intention at Kreomics is to improve understanding of the capacity of the tools of genetics to empower wellness choices. We do this through three main arms: education, research and wellness.

Our educational resources are always accessible and easy to follow, they include speaking engagements ranging from addressing scientific conferences to talking at TEDx. We teach classes and workshops around the country. We author white papers to condense the latest scientific research and curate the peer-reviewed scientific literature to provide a summary of empirical evidence to support holistic health.

Everything that we do at Kreomics is grounded in world-class research. We collaborate with different integrative health practitioners to evaluate how we can use the information contained within the dynamic aspects of our genome and biome to provide insight into our state of being. For example, we might look at how epigenetic profiles respond to different environmental stimuli to evaluate the efficacy of a wellness practice on a cellular level or we may evaluate the extent to which nutrition based wellness influences the biome of the body.

Improving wellness is the foundational principle of Kreomics. It is our fervent desire that an improvement in feelings of well-being will be the predominant outcome of any interaction in which we engage. We offer a multitude of different ancient wisdom based wellness modalities and will customize these offerings to an individual’s needs.

Ultimately, our vision is to be of service by enabling people to make more informed decisions with regard to their personal lifestyle choices. We do this by bridging the latest tools in genomic medicine with the ancient wisdom traditions of the integrative health community, and providing empirical evidence for the cellular shifts which occur when the body moves into a more balanced way of being.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Service. Everything that we do is done with the intention of being of service. We aim to be of service to both our direct clients and moreover, our desire is that the collective is also served through our work.
