Meet Kyle Trelford of The Traveling Tavern

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Trelford.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kyle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was bartending to put myself through college. I worked at a busy bar in the East County (The Flinn Springs Inn). As I graduated I still worked at the bar because I really enjoyed what I did. The hours got to be a bit much but again I loved what I did so I decided to start my own business. I had a friend that owned a limo business and was trying to get me to come up with a way that I could bartend in his cars when the idea came to me to start a mobile bartending business. I did a lot of research and found out that there were not a lot of options for this type of service in San Diego. The ones that did exist where the big companies that did more of the large-scale tailgate parties and large banquets. I decided that I would focus my business on the wedding industry as I knew that it was an industry that there would always be a need for and it was an industry where people would always be happy and excited as it was the most important day of their life.

Today weddings are about 90% of my business and I love it. There is something extra special about being a part of someone’s special day!

Has it been a smooth road?
The hardest part was breaking into the industry and getting my name out there. Luckily my friend that owned the limo business was well connected in the wedding industry and helped introduce me to the right people. That helped a lot but once I got going, the business took off and got pretty big pretty quickly.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Traveling Tavern – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a mobile bartending business that prides ourselves on great customer service. We know that when you are planning things for the first time, like a wedding, that not everything is going to go perfectly. We try to be prepared for anything and try to adapt however we can to make the situation right. I try to put myself in their shoes and treat them how I would want to be treated. In the restaurant business, you are always taught to “upsell”. That is how you are going to make more money. With my customers, I try to be very honest with them. I tell them that if they just do this one simple thing it will save them a lot of money. Sure I can do that for them but for me to do that I would have to charge them a lot more. Honesty and customer service are 2 things that are important to me and I think are appreciated by our customers.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the weather in San Diego and the amazing backdrops that we get to work in front of every single weekend. There have been so many weddings in beautiful locations that I have been able to work in. This city allows me to have amazing views no matter where I am working.

I think one bad thing about our city is the cost of living in this beautiful city. It is amazing but sometimes I feel like you have to work all the time to be able to afford it but then you do not have time to enjoy it.
