Meet Kyme Dang of Kyme Dang Music, Lady Dang Hair in Encinitas and Del Mar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyme Dang.

Kyme, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Signed as an artist in my 20’s, I had a devastating experience in the music business. So much so, I never thought, or sought out music for over 12 years. Blessed to build a thriving hair business called Lady Dang Hair, of which I am an independent stylist @ Salon Republic. In December 2016, the whispers of music were inviting me to come out & play. Slowly building up to the release of my 1st EP called EPOCH in March 2018. Still very much doing hair, EPOCH has received great feedback, and opportunities have started to bud. One of my original songs will be part of a multi-media play called The Once Upon A Backpack Experience. I’ve also received a callback to participate in a national & global tour. Very much in love with hair, I specialize in weddings, extensions, color, and cutting since 1998. I feel like a kid in a candy store with all that I’m privileged to be a part of.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been smooth sailing, as I mentioned the music business experience had me shut down that part of myself for years. There are a lot of challenges to the DIY music world. Staying in your lane and true to the process in order to come from a full place, is essential to keeping that “oh I’m behind and need to catch up” feeling at bay where it belongs. The ups and downs of being an entrepreneur in general, is constant flux. Waiting & checking in to see what is right for you, the businesses, and people involved, are all considerations to make the best decisions moving forward. There’s no one to blame for the “wrong way”, but the payoffs are just as sweet.

Kyme Dang Music, Lady Dang Hair – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Whether it be Kyme Dang Music or Lady Dang Hair, I’d say what sets me apart is authenticity, vulnerability, and originality. I’m not in my 20’s anymore and much more confident in my own skin, So whether it be the mood of the music that I make or art directing a photo shoot from start to finish for a client’s vision, wedding or job interview, it’s all about bringing my full self to contribute and love on what’s right in front of me to the best of my ability, experience, and insights.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
You go through life not realizing you may be living someone else’s goals. Not to say having a house, extra $ in the bank to be generous to yourself, and others, are not good marks to reach. It’s the why behind them that counts. As I get older, I realize my attitude in the middle of it all determines my success. How I treat others, and how I handle myself on the journey going towards whatever I’m hoping for is much more valuable elements. If all our “trophies” were stripped away, I’m very aware that all I have left is did the people that I worked alongside, created with, etc, feel loved and were better for the experience with me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a saint, but some things are just priceless.
