Meet Jeannie Owens of Lash Out! in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannie Owens.

Let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It was the middle of 2005. I was with a friend and we ran into her sister. There was something about her.. she looked beautiful and her eyes looked amazing! I couldn’t stop staring at her and finally had to ask “what kind of mascara are you wearing?” She smiled and said, “I’m not”. Then went on to tell me about this new professional beauty treatment that was just starting to take off…. semi-permanent eyelash extensions. She explained how each individual synthetic lash was attached one by one to each natural lash with a special adhesive that enabled the lashes to stay on for weeks. I was sold at that moment and decided become get trained and certified in eyelash extensions. I realized since this was so new there was only a handful of training companies so I registered with the next one who came to San Diego.

After training, I practiced daily on friends and anyone who would let me for a solid month and then started offering my services mobility. This was becoming difficult as my clients were increasing and therefore decided to look for space. After studying each area decided to focus on La Jolla Village area. I found this small studio space on Fay Ave. and made it Lash Out! Since this was the beginning of a new trend it took a little while to build a larger clientele. As this happened I bought a new tech to help and eventually realized more space would be needed. Lash Out moved to 920 Kline St. where we currently have 4 lash techs who specialize in this service – Shannon Melahn, Danelle Yost, April Yourdesky and myself, Jeannie Owens. Each of the girls is super passionate about lashes and very creative in their techniques and we have amazing clients, who we consider friends that have been coming to us for years.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with growing any business there are always challenges. Since lash extensions are a very niche type of service and in the beginning it being so new finding technicians experienced enough to do the lashes was difficult. There is definitely a very long learning curve to learning how to do this. We have such great lash artists now and our clients are very happy. Marketing a new service when at first no one knew anything about lashes.. so having to educate potential clients on why they would want lashes.. but after one application they were addicted. Finding quality products to use on our clients eyes.. we went through many brands and finally found JB Lashes, a quality line and amazing company and a US based manufacturer.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lash Out! – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Lash Out! is a salon that specializes in eyelash extensions. We do not offer a wide range of services here. It’s basically lashes and brows with lashes being the main focus and brows more of an add-on service. We have a great team of girls here and special mention to our amazing operations manager Carly. Our clients feel very comfortable when they come here.. having someone work on your eyes with tweezers can make people nervous. Our clients trust us.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
San Diego is such a beautiful place. There really isn’t much to dislike. Beautiful weather, amazing people.. even though maybe too many people.. traffic is terrible.. I guess that’s my dislike:)
