Meet Laura Claire Bagley of Laura Claire Style & Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Claire Bagley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura Claire. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always wanted to be a hairstylist, I played with everyone’s hair since I was a little girl. I started cutting and up-styling long before I had professional training. I also had a good friend growing up who was a hair stylist following in her mother’s footsteps as well. I learned a lot from them and when I had a health scare and had to cut off all my hair, it inspired me to work with others and help them feel beautiful from the outside in. I’ve always loved working with people one on one and there’s something incredible about changing the fabric or look of a client’s hair with a creative updo and a change in cut or color. My background in fashion and love of working with people is the perfect mix for the hair styling world. I’m blessed and I LOVE my career. I meet incredible people and the connections made when working that closely with someone are inspiring. I believe we are day makers. I learn so much from my clients as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been fortunate to build much of my business by referrals, but I think it is always a bit scary stepping out on your own and promoting yourself. It took me a long time to finally find someone to help me build my own brand and website. I wanted to focus on being behind the chair so having help with the business side of things really makes everything run smoothly. I am always eager to learn more and take classes with leaders in the industry. It’s the best way to stay relevant and I love bringing my new knowledge back to my clients.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Laura Claire Style & Hair story. Tell us more about the business.
I love every aspect of being a stylist. I started in the fashion world as a buyer and stylist and then put myself through beauty school a few years later. I love taking men’s cuts for the conversations and simplicity of what they are usually looking for. I find women’s color and cuts to be a great way to refresh a look and inspire new trends from the runway to the street. One area I’ve always loved is updo styling. Editorial work, fashion shows and bridal styling are such fun ways to change the fabric of hair, but in a way that isn’t permanent. I do love styling a bride on her wedding day. Being surrounded by her best friends and family, there’s just a great energy in the room! Not all stylists appreciate bridal styling, but I honestly don’t find it stressful, I really enjoy it.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think there is luck involved here at all. What I have put forth in effort, I have been rewarded benefit wise. I’m very social and I try to network when I can. Of course I am blessed with referrals. I would say my work speaks for itself. I think in styling and being so close with someone, there has to be a good connection.
