Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Hendrickson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have been interested in all forms of art since I was a child. I was not only in art classes in high school and college, but I would take additional classes through the city for various types of painting and photography.
I had never thought that I could actually do this full time, and after years of taking photos of my own children, and friends and family, one day, I went for it. Started social media pages, called the city to get my license and it went on from there. Like most, I kept my full-time job as I built clientele. I was exhausted to say the least. In May of 2016, my company let a few people go due to budget cuts. I was one of those people, at first, I was petrified, but shortly realized this was the push that I needed. I was now able to put all my energy in my business and my passion. All while showing my children to follow their heart and do what you love.
Please tell us about your art.
I capture moments in life. So many of my clients become friends and family. People trust me to be there on the most important days of their lives. Weddings, the birth of their children, and so much more. I want my client to walk away from their session with joy in their hearts, I want them to interact, not just pose and smile, but talk, laugh, have fun and enjoy each other. Take a deep breath, as each moment will pass, so enjoy every bit of it.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I defiantly think my role as an artist has changed., and is always changing. There are so many changes in the world and I feel that it is our job as artists to portray and support all.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have social media accounts and a website, for many different ways to view and follow my work. The best feeling ever, is when someone sends me a message, and tells me that they “enjoy” following me. That makes all the hard work and effort pay off.
