Meet Laura Lothian of The Lothian Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lothian.

Hi Laura, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was a stay-at-home mom from 1989 until 2002 when I rejoined the workforce to support my three young children. I was hired in early 2002 by a boutique real estate office in Solana Beach as a real estate broker’s assistant then moved to a Help-U-Sell real estate office in La Mesa at the end of 2002.

I earned my CA real estate sales license in the summer of 2003 and in my first full year as a real estate agent, in 2004, I sold 104 homes, ranking me 4th in the nation for Help-U-Sell agents’ sales production. I have now been with Real Estate of the Pacific, Inc., since 2007, dba Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty.

In June of 2022, I was recognized by Real Trends and the Wall Street Journal as a Top 1.49% Realtor nationwide. I also have the distinction of having sold the most homes in La Mesa since 2003, maybe ever, we’re checking the stats as I write this.

In 2021, in a special election to complete council member Akilah Weber’s term, I was elected to the La Mesa City Council. I am up for reelection in November 2022. My political platform is to keep our focus on local issues: Police, Permits, & Potholes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Thankfully, my real estate success has been mostly a smooth road! First, my motivation was huge: give my three children, who were my sole responsibility, the best, most secure, happiest life I could give them. The more success I had, the higher my income, and the better care I could provide.

Second, I am addicted to working. I find all aspects of real estate fulfilling. If I work 10 hours a day, seven days per week, I don’t feel drained, I feel accomplished and happy.

Third, I have been a creative writer since childhood. I have had numerous columns published in newspapers and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily 49er. I channel creative writing and imagery toward my listings, which make them really stand out.

Lastly, I feel a strong, moral obligation to protect my clients from any missteps. I am extraordinarily proud that after selling homes for 20 years and $1/2 billion in local real estate sales, not one single client of mine has had to go through arbitration, mediation, lawsuit, or even an insurance claim. That is remarkable in a litigious society like ours.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Lothian Group, Inc.?
I am a realtor working for the Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty brokerage. I specialize in listing/selling residential homes and also represent residential home buyers. I am based in La Mesa, CA but work all of San Diego County.

Sotheby’s has a rich history dating back to its first auction in London, in 1744. I am proud to be associated with Sotheby’s brand which embodies high quality, prestige, affluence, artistry, and distinction – “Connoisseurs of Life.”

What sets me apart is that “good enough” is never good enough. I strive for perfection, especially when it comes to marketing homes. It takes me hours, sometimes days, to photograph my listings. I direct all shoots and am an expert at photographing the best angles and showcasing a home’s most appealing features. I have run into many agents and members of the public who tell me they can always spot a “Laura Listing!”

I am one of those agents where you can put everything on my plate and I’ll take care of it, along with my construction/inspection partner and our ace transaction coordinator. Our files and escrows are airtight.

What does success mean to you?
Raising happy, successful kids; love and affection from my family; personal fulfillment; making a positive difference in my community via the City Council, boards, and commissions; mutual appreciation between my clients and myself; sterling reputation; repeat business; career longevity; a reliable stream of referrals; high regard from peers and colleagues; awards and commendations from real estate associations and feeling more fit and healthy now than I did 20 years ago thanks to Pickleball!
