Meet Lauren Burnham of On Point Massage Therapy in North Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Burnham.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I decided to go to massage school after having many injuries from athletics. Massage was an affordable enough option for treatments and it brought me back to life after each set back. The business got started by working on friends when I was in school at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. I moved onto massage by donation; when I was certified I started doing promotions and referral programs for my friends. I contacted everyone I knew via Facebook Messenger and solicited them. I was pleasantly surprised at how many people were interested. I still see some of those same people each month. Most of my clients are referrals from clients that first started with me.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a relatively smooth road so far. The only real bump has been the mental toll that having your own business brings. I’m constantly thinking about treatments for my current clients, how to market for my niche, new techniques that I want to study. Needless to say, I am usually exhausted by the end of the day but I love it.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
On Point Massage Therapy provides customized massage at an affordable price. I specialize in ART, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, Sports, and Thai Massage, as well as Myofascial Release and Cupping. My focus is to decrease pain, increase flexibility and promote better posture after one visit. As a company, I am most proud of watching my clients achieve their wellness goals. I love watching their progress, even if it means that I don’t see them as much because they are feeling better. What sets me apart is goal orientated treatments. If someone wants to be able to raise their arms over their head or touch their toes, then I’m going to get them there using whatever is in my toolbox. I’ve been known to research new techniques just to work on a particular client. Everyone responds differently so I throw whatever I got at it and see what works.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
San Diego, especially North Park has been great for my business. I love working on people in my neighborhood and my clients enjoy being able to walk to my location. My current location has plenty of parking which was a must when I was looking for a space. There has been a lot of apartment and condo construction in North Park so I am looking forward to meeting new people.
